Here we go againMy neighbor says Here we go again every year as she cleansup and prepares her flower garden for the spring; How eloquenta saying and how appropriate for everyday living. I chuckle whenI hear her say this, but this time I took another look- I have viewedit from another stance. Each year we seem to go through thesame sequences- the same events- the same routines. But is thattruly the case? I think not because life is forever proceeding for-ward and changing, whether we want it to or not. Some days thesky is blue and the sun is shining, the air is clear and healthfullybreathable, the birds are singing, the bunnies are hopping about, animals are all around us, the children are playing, life moves onand all is good. However, there are those days when all seemssullen, the sky turns grey with forever clouds, the birds and ani-mals have gone into hiding, colors have disappeared from aroundus, the children are bickering and crying, and parents are angryor sad. Sometimes all seems lost, untilyour neighbor smilesand you can see the heartfelt joy in her gardening. She complainsabout all the work, but you know she loves it. Her joy spreads toyour heart and you once again remember the sunshine and real-ize it is all around you, even on those gloomy days when allseems lost

    YesLifeHere we go again!

Hadley-Luzerne School BoardMy family relocated to Lake Luzerne in May 1985. Within a week,I was asked to chaperone a field trip to Storytown (now the GreatEscape). That started my continued successful relationship withthe school district.Since then, I have been a Teacher Aide, Bus Monitor, SubstituteCaller, High School Secretary, Junior Class Advisor, YearbookAdvisor, Chaperone, Extra Curricular Central Treasurer, and Pay-roll Clerk and had various other functions associated with eachposition. This School District has been my second home, and its employ-ees my family, for more than 27 years. I believe my children re-ceived an excellent education in this school district and havesince graduated from college and gone on to be very successfulin each of their respective fields.I feel very lucky to have worked for this school district. Now, Ifeel it is my turn to serve. I would like the opportunity to be onthe school board and continue the forward progress of the districtfor the betterment of the students, employees, and taxpayers.I would appreciate your vote on May 21st. Thank you.

Did you know? When people think of outdoor storage, they generally envision garden sheds tohouse their lawn and garden equipment and tools. However, if space doesn'tallow for a large shed, there is no need to fret because there are other storagepossibilities. Consider a garden ottoman or bench, for example. This structurecan be built from wood and then painted or covered in padded fabric. Storesmall items inside the ottoman, which can also serve as a table or additionalseating. In addition to an ottoman, a garden tool that can keep shovels andrakes organized. Homeowners with a deck can construct lidded deck boxes tostore patio cushions or any other outdoor equipment. Utilizing the space underthe deck is another idea. Cover the perimeter of the bottom of the deck with lat-tice and install one piece on a hinge to serve as a door. Store equipment un-derneath and out of sight. It also will be protected from the elements.

Did you know?More and more homeownersembracing a relatively newway to shower. Walk-in, orwalk-behind, showers aredoorless structures that aredesigned to give the shower amore open look. Walk-in show-ers are often appear largerthan more traditional showers, and those that do take up morespace do so to prevent waterfrom spraying around theroom. Though walk-in showersdo not have doors, they do em-ploy a glass partition to keepwater in. Walk-in showersoften give a bathroom a moremodern look, but their role ismore than aesthetic. In fact, many seniors find it is easier toget in and out of a walk-inshower, something that couldreduce their risk of falling andsuffering an injury.

DID YOU KNOW?Landscape fabrics are used to prevent weed growth while still al-lowing air, oxygen and water to flow to and from the soil. Land-scape fabrics are a chemical-free way to prevent weed growth, endearing them to eco-friendly homeowners. Landscape fabrics, once laid, also are a far less labor-intensive method to preventweed growth, as they can be effective for several years, duringwhich homeowners can expect to perform little or no mainte-nance. In addition, many homeowners prefer landscape fabricsbecause they can help the soil effectively maintain moisture dur-ing dry periods, when gardens might otherwise be highly suscep-tible to drought. Once put down, landscape fabric can be coveredwith mulch to add aesthetic appeal.

Kitchen work triangleThe kitchen is arguably themost-used room in the houseduring waking hours. Havinga kitchen that is laid out in anefficient manner can improveproductivity and make for amore enjoyable experience.Designers often stress havingan effective work triangle inthe kitchen. The phrase"kitchen work triangle" startedwith the Building ResearchCouncil (formerly the SmallHomes Council) at the Uni-versity of Illinois. The ideacame from studies of spaceusage and the search for effi-cient kitchen designs. Whatthe triangle essentially meansis positioning three key itemsof the kitchen for efficiency. The stove, sink and refrigera-tor represent the three mainpoints of the triangle. Havingthese items spaced accord-ingly can make work easier.Having them too close to-gether can create a cramped, ineffective room. The place-ment of the triangle pointsalone does not make a suc-cessful layout. According tothe University of Missouri Ex-tension, the triangle spaceshould also be measured ac-cordingly. Put 4 to 7 feet be-tween the refrigerator andsink, 4 to 6 feet between thesink and stove and 4 to 9 feetbetween the stove and refrig-erator, with the ideal size re-sulting in a work trianglewhere the three sides totalbetween 15 and 22 feet.

Did you know? When people think of outdoorstorage, they generally envi-sion garden sheds to housetheir lawn and garden equip-ment and tools. Board of EducationI am running for a seat on the Corinth Central School district

Board of Education. Like most parents, I feel that change needsto come to our district and I am ready to serve. It is no longeracceptable to hear the phrase "that's the way it's always beendone". We need to start finding better ways of making our districtgreat, supporting our educators, and making sure our childrenare getting the best education to prepare them for their lives asadults. We are so fortunate to have a wonderful school district here in

Corinth. For the past three years I have volunteered as a CSEparent member and most recently as a member of the CorinthElementary PTSO, serving as the fundraiser coordinator, assist-ing with our elementary fun nights, the book fair, and coordinatingour Box Tops for Education fundraiser. I am very passionateabout our district and feel my next step is to serve on the schoolboard. My top priority is first and foremost, the education of ourstudents, ALL of our students. Equally as important to me is tobe available to our parents, educators, and community. Toomany of us feel that we are not heard and our concerns are nottaken seriously, that will stop with me. Finally, I feel that my back-ground in business and my experience working both in businessand in educational settings will make me a strong candidate andboard member.Change is good. Change is necessary. We need a Board of

Education that looks forward, not back. The status quo is notgood enough anymore. Being fiscally responsible is a given, weneed to start being cost effective and searching for new ways tokeep our existing programs and bring in new ways to educateour children. I have a lot of ideas and hope that you will join mein making our district better than ever. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Email shouldbe sent to [email protected] and check out my face-book page - Susan Falkenbury for Corinth Board of Education. For the sake of our children, we must ALL be ready to LEARN -Listen, Evaluate, Advocate, Recognize, and Nurture.I would greatly appreciate your vote on May 21st. Thank you.
