APRIL 2014
NEWS BUSINESS SUPPORTS RELAXED START TO 2014!Led by a substantial donation from IMI plc, a string of city businesses
supported our first ever Relaxed Performance at this year’s sensational
pantomime. Around 800 people enjoyed this specially-adapted
performance aimed at patrons with autism, a learning disability or
sensory and communication disorder.
IMI was the major corporate donor in our successful Big Give campaign
which raised over £11,000 to help ensure that the foyer areas were
transformed with special signage and break-out rooms including a soft
play area and a sensory room featuring some wonderful interactive
pieces including two passive bubble tubes.
IMI’s Will Shaw said “The success of the Hippodrome’s Relaxed
Performance is thoroughly deserved. It is very pleasing to know that IMI’s
support has contributed to such a worthwhile cause and innovative event,
and we are delighted that other businesses have chosen to follow suit.”
Other corporate donors included Grant Thornton and Squire Sanderswho attended a reception on the day to see at first hand the
transformational impact an experience of this kind can have on sufferers
and their families.
Solicitors Irwin Mitchell were even more hands-on and sent a team of
staff volunteers to work alongside the theatre’s Front of House team.
They got into the spirit of the day by wearing sparkling glittery hats,
welcoming families and handing out sensory toys to visitors.
Irwin Mitchell volunteer Hayley Hill commented, “I was on a real ‘high’ at
the end of the afternoon. Attending the training provided by the
Hippodrome was useful and very interesting meaning that we all got even
more out of the experience”.
Performance Partner, Wesleyan played their part by inviting a group of
beneficiaries from Birmingham Children’s Hospital to enjoy the
afternoon.
