Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR

Virtual Reality (VR) is a simulated environment generated by computer technology, allowing users to experience and interact with the seemingly physical objects in a situation intended by a designer.

Special equipment include a helmet with a screen inside, gloves with sensors, and joint stick.

Augmented Reality (AR) combines physical and computer-generated scenes and images to become a unified environment in order to enhance perception to the world.

Special equipment include digital eyewear or screen and handheld devices.

Activity 4: Theoretical Background of VR and AR

In summary, the differences between VR and AR

1. VR provides full immersion into a simulated world, while AR only overlays digital objects into a view of physical world.

2. Closed headset or goggles are used for VR to block perception of the existing environment, while AR needs only an eyewear or a screen to display digital objects on the real surrounding background.

Still confusing?
