Financial Report - March 17TH & 18TH, 2018

OLV THANK YOU:Fr. Bill would like to thank all who came out for our Parish Mission.

FINANCE COUNCIL MEETING:The next Finance Council meeting will be on April 5th at 5:00PM.

COMMUNITY SPIRIT:Thank you to Mr. Rod Fleming owner of the Giant Tiger store in Embrun for his donations of new clothing items. They were sorted and delivered by the OLV Fundraising group to the Youville Centre, Harvest House, the Shepherds of Good Hope, Carson Grove Elementary School, Robert E Wilson Elementary School and the St FX Drama Department.

GOOD FRIDAY MARCH 30 - FAST AND ABSTINANCE:A little self-denial is healthy in many ways. It gives you a tiny insight into Jesus’ agony on the cross for you. It gives you a hint of the suffering of the needy who do not share your life of abundance. It also asserts that not every appetite controls you. The opposite, unbroken self-indulgence, is a form of idolatry: “Their end is destruction; their god is the belly.” (Philippians 3.19). Taken from Archbishop Terrence Prendergast’s letter for Lent 2018.

Sunday Morning Smile : )

The catechist asked her Religious Education class to draw

pictures of their favorite Bible stories. She was puzzled by one boy’s picture,

which showed four people on an airplane, so she asked him which story it

was meant to represent. “The ight to Egypt,” he said.“I see,” said the

catechist. “And that must be Mary, Joseph and Baby Jesus. But who’s the

fourth person?”

“Oh, that’s Punches the Pilot...”

OLV MEMORIAL DONATION CARDS:If ever you have thought to have your loved one remembered in a mass, Our Lady of the Visitation has Memorial Donation Cards to do just that. Your deceased family member or friend will be remembered for a full year in a monthly memorial mass celebrated at Our Lady of the Visitation Parish. The cards are easy to ll out and can be picked up in the Sacristy before and after each mass, in the Parish Ofce, and are available at Kelly’s Funeral Home and Daley’s Funeral Home. A sample is on the Bulletin Board for all to see. The Memorial Cards are a prayerful and beautiful way in which we can pray for the repose of the souls of our loved ones over the course of a full year.

Any donation over $20.00 will receive a tax receipt.

THE CARRYING OF THE CROSS:

Come follow me…

Fathers and mothers have to shoulder many crosses. Parents have the joy of bringing children into the world, but they have to carry them for a long time before they stand on their own two feet. Children have their crosses too. They often suffer in silence. No wonder, Lord, that you said to the women of Jerusalem: ‘ Weep not for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children.’ Teach us in this mystery, Jesus, to realise that we do not carry the cross alone. We are a family and we carry each other. And you are out ahead of us and we walk in your footsteps. GOOD FRIDAY, MARCH 30, 2018, PONTIFICAL COLLECTION:On Good Friday, there will be a Pontical collection for the Holy Land in support of the Christian communities, the work of the Holy land, the upkeep of the Holy Sites and the formation of future priests. Let us give generously and show solidarity to respond to the needs of the Church in the land of Jesus. With gratitude from Father Charles Gilles Bourdeau, OFM, Commissary of theHoly Land in Canada.

MEMORIAL MASSES - DONATIONS FOR THE RESTORATION OF OLV: ~ February $ 805.00 ~

~ March up until point of publishing $ 2,620.00 ~

OLV NEWS:The ofce will be closed Good Friday and Easter Monday. There will be no masses on April 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th. There is no coffee Sunday on Easter Sunday.

ROSARIES FOR FIRST COMMUNION AND CONFIRMATION:If you are wondering what to get one of your family members who will be celebrating their rst sacraments, please consider one of the First Communion and Conrmation Rosaries for sale at the back of the church.

AFTER EASTER:After Easter, the weekday Mass schedule will be as follows. Tuesdays andThursdays Masses at 7pm. Wednesdays and Fridays Masses at 9am. FirstSaturday Mass remains at 8:00am. This will give our parish priest, Fr. Bill sufcient time to celebrate Masses for the schools of our parish and also for the residents of the Osgoode Care Centre. This new schedule also gives Parishioners who have been attending the evening Masses during Lent to continue to worship. On those days where there is a CWL meeting and Knights of Columbus meeting during the month, Fr. Bill will also do a Mass at 7:00 pm. In other words, there will be two Masses, one at 9:00am and one at 7:00pm on those days there are a CWL meeting and a meeting for the Knights of Columbus. If you have scheduled a Mass on a particular day and cannot make the new time, please call the ofce. SPIRITUAL READING:On display at the back of the church are spiritual reading books all under$5.00. To order, sign your name, number of copies, and phone numbers. ST. PADDY’S DAY EVENT:Many thanks to the volunteers who made the March 11th event such a success. People loved the Irish Stew dinner with all the trimmings and enjoyed the Kings Creek music. Your parish fundraising group netted over $1879.00 for this Sunday afternoon event.

ENTRY INTO JERUSALEM:Christ’s path was strewn with palm branches by the crowds which greeted him ~ these were universal signs of victory, both for members of the Jewish faith and in the pagan world. Later, the tombs of Christian martyrs were often marked with palm branches as a sign of their victory over death. Christ rode a donkey rather than a horse as a sign of humility (John 12.12-15). Later it became customary for high ecclesiastics to ride donkeys or mules in direct imitation of Christ.
