The topic of the discussion was “United Nation and Super Pow- ers”. The other panelists included Mr. Asim Rizvi, retired Ambassador, and Dr. Riffat Hussain, an expert in International Relations. Dr. Kalsoom Sumra gave her views on the topic during the discussion and poli- cy position taken by her was to give third world countries more representation in UN for solving con- flicting issues. Dr. Kalsoom Sumra, Assistant Professor, Center for

Policy Studies participated in Pakistan Television’s

tional Security Consultations: A Look through Global Models. The event

was held on 8 February 2018 at Hotel Marriott in Islamabad and focused on the civil

-military relations in Pakistan and the role of the National Security Committee

Muslim Futures and CPSTwo scenario essays of Mr. Umar Sheraz, Senior Research Officer, Center for Policy Studies, CIIT Islamabad campus

have been accepted for publication in the Muslim Futures, Project of International Institute of Islamic

Thought (IIIT), Washington, D.C., USA. These two essays of 1500 words each depict a worst-case scenario for

the Muslim Ummah (Hammam Wars) and a best-case scenario (Trans Islam). It has yet to be decided whether the arti-

cles will form part of a book or be part of an online depository.

Dr. Kalsoom Sumra, Assistant Professor, Center for Policy Studies participated in the Pakistan Television program “45

Minutes” on Sunday, February 4, 2018 at 09:00 pm as an educationist. The other panelists included Dr. Habib Ur

Rehman Asim, Religious Scholar; Raja Nazir, Advocate and Waheed Murad, Journalist. Ms. Farkhunda Chaudhary was the

host of the program. The topic of the program was “Ordinary Disputes Solutions out of Courts”. The policy

position taken by Dr. Kalsoom Sumra was to establish small units for dispute resolution at local government level.

Dr. Kalsoom Sumra, Assistant Professor, Center for Policy Studies successfully participated in Pakistan Television

program “ Seedhi Baat” on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11:00 pm. The Other panelists included: Mr. Abdullah Gillani

(Huriat Leader), Dr. Mr. Hassan Khan (Expert in Afghan matters). Mr Yasir Rehman was the host of the program and

program topic was “Strategic solution for Kashmir and Afghanistan Relations: Dr. Kalsoom Sumra actively

participated in the discussion and gave her intellectual view to resolve the issue through table talks.

Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad’s paper, “Judicialization of Electoral Politics” has been accepted by LUMS and will

be presented on 14-15, March 2018.

International Association of Political Science has invited Dr. Muhammad Shakeel Ahmad to share electoral research in

their Annual Conference, 2018. He will also present his ongoing research on elections at Budapest Business School

Hungary in mid of July.

Dr. Ghulam Shabbir, Assistant Professor Center for Policy Studies CIIT Islamabad presented a research paper titled

“Islam’s normative discourse on Knowledge and Education Policy” in a two day international conference on

“Government and Governance Policy” held at Fatima Jinnah Women University Rawalpindi on February, 2018.

CPS monthly meeting was held on February 22, 2018 from 3 pm to 5 pm at Room G-8 near faculty cafeteria, CIIT

Islamabad. All CPS team participated in the meeting which was chaired by Dr. Imran Syed, Head, Center for Policy

Studies. Dr. Imran Syed encouraged the CPS team to complete the planned activities and discussed road maps for

upcoming activities.

Centre for Policy Studies is planning to organize a Seminar on “Xenophobia: A Study of Impacts on Policy

and International Relations” on Tuesday 20 March, 2018 from 2 pm to 5pm at Library Video Conference

Room, CIIT, Islamabad. The seminar includes presentations by academics from Quaid-i-Azam University and CIIT

and experts from UNHCR and the UN Migration Agency.

The Centre for Policy Studies (CPS) aims at bridging the gap between academia, research

and the public policy making processes. To achieve its goals the Centre’s team is a blend of

academicians, scholarly researchers and policy practitioners who have had extensive experi-

ence in public policy formulation and implementations process at senior levels.

Through its collaboration and partnership with well-known policy centers and think tanks

around the world, the Centre also examines Pakistan’s policy alternatives on the basis of

best international practices in various fields.

Apart from the small number of team members at CPS, the Centre is also able to access

over 500 PhD scholars working as faculty across the campuses of COMSATS in the country.

Dr. Imran Syed took over charge as Head of CPS in January 2018. Dr. Syed brings over 30

years of professional experience to the position. His diverse experience includes working in

academia, the development and the corporate sector. Under his leadership CPS is moving

fast towards new programs and activities.
