WHAT DO THE LITTLE ONE’S MAKE OF REMEMBRANCE DAY?

On the 11th November I was invited to North Repps Primary school for their remembrance service It was a bright if rather blustery morning, classes Acorn and Oak Tree with their teachers gathered together with members of their families and friends of the school, plus representatives of the local British Legion The trumpeter was required elsewhere but with the aid modern technology we had a beautiful sounding trumpet The children were very good and maintained the silence then listened intently when the eulogy was spoken by Mr Eric Brickers chair of the N Repps British Legion

Then all were invited into the school where Acorn class recited The owl and the Pussycat by Edward Lear, most enjoyable and as I remarked to a proud granddad sitting beside me, I was in my twenties before I knew what a quince was and he shared he still did not know what a ‘runcible spoon’ was! Oak Tree pupils then read poetry they had written after learning of the horrors of war The poetry was full of blood, mud and horror as were wars of that time, although the conditions have changed a bit, the horror remains as unfathomable. The day was lovely and moving but I can not be clear as to the answer to the title question. The Ed.

From The Editor

Dear Editor, I wonder how many people have noticed, as I have, the growing number of long-term unemployed staffi ng charity shops in Cromer and Sheringham. The days when you could go in, mooch around and then exchange banter and gossip with a cheery eldery woman volunteer seem to be over. Instead you come up against some ill-shaven scruff bag who just about grunts a “mornin’”. I understand that these shops are having trouble getting volunteers and therefore rely on the Labour Exchange providing them with these characters who shun any king of work. I’m not surprised. Who in their right mind would volunteer to be around these people? In my humble judgement the charity shops ought to have a re-think and do more to encourage responsible, law-abiding people to freely volunteer their services rather than depend on this ragbag of surly freeloaders. Yours Philip Graham

Life rushes along and at this time of the year with Christmas pending it seems to make life for many not peaceful but doubly stressful, a friend went into Cromer Sat 7th Nov and found that the Poppy boxes had already been collected from many shops!I think if we can just stop for a second and as the saying goes ‘smell the roses’ or stare at the stars it can help the mind relax and put some of the hussel and bussel into perspective.I had a late night phone call during the extended weekend of fi reworks from a distressed neighbour, who asked why would people not think of others and confi ne the extremely noisy fi reworks to one night and have the decency to advise their immediate neighbours of their plans that the neighbours could be prepared and prepare their animals as much as is possible.Thinking of others reactions to our actions seems to be a a dying art, along with basic good manners!I am amazed how often I receive emails expecting inclusion in the magazine without the courtesy of a please and/or thank you.The weather has become colder, are you and your car checked and ready? There are some great events and promotions locally, details throughout the Crab Tales, enjoy your read

Dear Editor,It was with some amusement that i noticed your carol concert poster in issue 74. Not only not this years but 2012 ?? I scoured the rest of the paper looking for the instructions to build a tardis as I fancied attending but was out of luck. Any chance of 2011 lottery numbers nest issue ?.Yours,Bruce Bamthorpe

Reply From Editor.Thank you for your letter Bruce. The inclusion of a 2012 carol poster was not an oversight. Infact it was a coded message to the CRABTALES sleeper agents in Scotland. They were placed there so that in the event of a Scottish vote for independencethey were to rush to secure a fi ve year supply of Tunnocks wafer biscuits and head south with all due haste. It was pointed out that Tunnocks have a one year shelf like so we decided to scrap the idea. Many thanks for your vigilence.

Call us to see how we can make life with your Garage Door a whole lot easier

NORFOLK RIVERS TRUST NEED YOUR HELP.The Norfolk Rivers Trust are looking for volunteers who can help them plant trees along the Rivers Bure and Yare this winter. Trees are proving to be essential in reducing the impacts of climate change on our national waterways by stabilising water temperatures, buff ering pollution and by providing a steady food source.By joining this initiative you will be helping Norfolks rivers adapt to the threats faced by our changing climate, improving habitat for species such as Brown Trout and the European Eel.N.R.T are hoping to attract people of all ages with a spectrum of tree planting experience. Whether you are looking to help preserve your natural surroundings or you would like to gain practical work experience, they would love you to get involved. Preliminary dates are: December 16th, 17th and 18th and January 6th, 7th and 8th. Additionally, They would like to hear from you even if you can not commit to any dates provided above and add you to our ‘tree planters’ list for the future. exquisitely enhanced by the incomparable Keith skipper, we now need to present cheques to

The Mundesley Craft Club are now affi liated to the Norfolk Knitters and Stitchers group. The photo shows a display of items sewn and knitted to be handed over to them.

The Norfolk Knitters support many charities at home and abroad with anything from premature baby items, muffl ers and twiddle pads for dementia patients, hats, scarves and gloves for seamen to dog jackets and toy hedgehogs and a whole lot more in between. There is something for everyone from very simple to more complex. The Craft club meet on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the month in Coronation Hall or at the library from 2-4pm every Tuesday afternoon. The aim of the Norfolk Knitters is to incorporate people who, may be on their own or to shy to join big groups but would be interested in meeting like minded people once in a while or perhaps just knitting at home but at least having a purpose to knit or sew for. If you would like to come along and meet us – we tend to do more nattering than knitting! – and have a look at what we do you will be most welcome.
