These potlucks, held every season, are a tradition in the choir that allows us to get to know each other a little better.

Please bring a tasty dish to share and your own plate, cup and cutlery. An ingredients sign would be helpful for those with dietary considerations and perhaps a name label in case someone wants to get your recipe from you.

All choir members are welcome at all potlucks. Come and enjoy!

EDITOR’S NOTES & REMINDERSSUPPORTING EACH OTHER (#1)

WORD LIMITS, WORD COUNTS AND COMPUTER WIZARDS

I get a number of items submitted each week that are over the 100 word limit and even over my 115 word “Oh well I’ll let it go” limit. Perhaps the problem is some of you aren’t sure of what to count or how to count it so….

What to count

All the words in the “body” of your item (ie everything except the Title and your “Submitted by..” line)

How to count Unfortunately I can only give you the method for MS Word here which is to select all of your body copy and then look down in the bottom right hand corner of your Word window to where you can see something like:

(the number after the / is the number of characters)

If you feel the urge to see more information then “right” click on the “words” section and a list of different types of information regarding your copy will pop-up.

Most other word processing programs will have some way of giving you a word count without you having to do the old 1, 2, 3, 4…. I don’t know, however, whether there are any email programs that offer such a function. I haven’t found one in my treasured, but ancient, Eudora program but more recent email program and services may. If your email program doesn’t you could consider writing your item in a program that does and then, when it is ready to submit, copy it and paste into your email.

To find out if the program you are writing your item in offers a word count function simply put the name of your program followed by “word count” in a Google search.

In fact: anything you might want to know about any program you are using is probably out there in Google-land somewhere. Ask and ye shall receive!

Make use of the Google magic and you to can become computer wizard!

Bloomer Mafuwa was the ranger on the horseback safari I went on there. An Acer Aspire mini laptop would be perfect, and easy to carry over there. Otherwise, whatever is offered..I can take it to Bloomer when I go in December!
