The show was filled with great comedy, action and at times, some tear-jerking mo- ments of serious social commentary. The cast and crew should be congratu- lated for presenting this fine play, executed to perfection. Congratulations to Fiona Kennedy for bringing this play vividly to the stage. The set was colourful, the costumes au- thentic and the action spot-on. The back- stage crew added a further layer of excel- lence with sound and lighting. Some of the scenes were ‘stolen’ by the children who added their bit to the overall success of the production. The audiences appreciated the play and were right in there with the story line - in brilliant 3D. A number of people from child- minding centres were there and especially enjoyed the action of the play. So VPs can chalk up another great season opener. Looks like 2011, will be another great year of success - financially and criti- cally. We now look forward to Play No.2, Marvin’s Room, which opens on Friday, 3rd June. Rehearsals have already begun, so put down this date in your entertainment diaries. MORE PICTURES BREASTFEEDING CANNIBALISM?? Congratulations everyone on a wonderful production of Crèche and Burn. Yet another success for VPs. Our audi-ences, including the playwright, Elise Greig have all loved the production, showing once more that locally written plays can be just as entertaining, thought provoking and profitable as American and European plays. Many thanks to those members who helped out on Front of House, especially Robin Carney who dropped in on the night before opening and vacuumed the auditorium. The large audiences appreciated their cuppa or glass of wine and juice at interval. This production also saw a large number of our audience becoming subscribers. This is great news for our future. Committed subscribers help us greatly by providing a pre-paid audience, while they get a much cheaper ticket price. Thank you to all members who I know have encouraged their family and friends to subscribe. Sadly, there was a break in during the show. On a Tuesday night, the foyer door had been wrenched open and some lighting equipment was stolen. Thankfully we were fully in-sured so the equipment was quickly replaced. The Institute and our wonderful backstage crew have repaired and strengthened the door to prevent any further forced entries. Many thanks to Dan Knudson, Andrew Heron, Gregg Gorris and Fiona Kennedy for operating the lights (some manually)

before the replacement equipment arrived. May promises to be a busy month. Not just because of preparations for the next play, Marvin’s Room but also be-cause we have been asked to participate in a couple of out-side productions for the Qld Law Week and a dinner at the Riverside Ballroom in New Farm. The details are below, and we will need performers as well as some crew in order to make the events happen. Please have a look at the events and let the contact people know if you are interested. They promise to be a lot of fun and will help to raise our public and community profile, as well as boosting our coffers. Negotiations with the Southbank Institute of Technology continue to be positive. We have received our bill for the venue hire for 2010 and up til April 2011, and the amount is very reasonable. It means that last year we did make a profit and our first production for 2011 should make a substantial profit. May you all have a safe and happy Easter. Cheers Leo

MARCH MONTHLY MEETING

It was the Eve of St Patrick's Day, on the 16th March. Members were presented with a miscellany of short pieces from poets, play-wrights, "prosers", posers and musicians from Ireland and thoroughly enjoyed the craic. 48 shades of green were seen in the clothing of the assembled. Taking part were Jenny Brunner and Meagan Lawson in an excerpt from "By the Bog of Cats" by Marina Carr. Rod Thompson gave a moving unaccompanied singing of "The Auld Triangle", the signature song from Brendan Behan's "The Quare Fellow". Samantha Tierney gave Mary's poem from Sean O'Casey's play "Juno and the Paycock". Leo Bradley sang two lively traditional songs, "Kitty from Coleraine" and "The Star of the County Down". Rod and Maria played tradi-tional airs "She Moved Through the Fair", "Planxty Irwin" and "Off to California", on the concertina and autoharp. Leo, Sam and Rod pre-sented a very humorous extract from Spike Milligan's novel of the Irish village "Puckoon". Paul and Glynne Liddy took us on a very Irish tour of Ireland, with very funny travel tales both tall and true. A very enjoyable night was had by all.

The audited accounts of the Players will be presented to the members at the April meeting. Wilson Ross Accountants have final-ised this for the 2010 year, and we wish to thank Mark Wilson, our Honorary Auditor for his wonderful efforts in this regard. We would like every financial member to attend to receive and accept the audited ac-counts when they are tabled.

GREAT NEWS! Neil Goodwin and Meagan Lawson have announced their engagement! They tried to keep it a secret [hence the secret sunglasses and hats] but fortunately ‘Rex’ spilled the beans. Seriously - all VPs congratu-late you and wish you guys all the very best.
