The team of eight bikers - Graham Coley, Neil Franklin, John Haines, Ian McMahon, Ian Wickins, Kevin Wild, Peter Wild and Jenson’s granddad Brian Burn - were inspired by the brave toddler and hoped to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis Trust, as well as Macmillan Cancer Support. The group began their journey at Ravenglass in Cumbria, before finishing in North Shields two days later. They raised the fantastic sum of £6,000, which was split between the two charities. Brian Burn, who organises the event annually, was asked why he decides to take part in such a gruel- ling experience. He said, “We do it because we like it, in a very strange way! But most importantly to raise funds for charities that need our money to help support people in their time of need, and for treatments to keep us all in good health for longer.” The money was presented to the two charities at Elm Road WMC on Saturday 19th October. It also provides policies for determining planning ap-plications.A public drop in session has been organised for Tuesday 5th November, from 2pm - 6pm at Shildon Civic Hall.

Officers there will be avail-able to discuss details of the Pre-Submission Draft Plan and offer advice on how to respond to the con-sultation. Shildon Model Railway Club looking for a new base

Members of Shildon Model Railway Club are appealing to find a new base for their club, after it was recently made homeless. The club, with members from all across County Durham, started in 1982 and since then has had four homes including: South-erne Social Club in Newton Aycliffe, the Coach House

and Timothy Hackworth Museum in Shildon and, most recently, The Light-foot Institute in Bishop Auckland.Currently, layouts are stored in Durham County Council-owned garages in Newton Aycliffe and at Locomotion: The National Railway Museum at Shildon. They now need

a new place they can call home and where they can work on the displays.Ideally, they hope to secure a base within ten miles of Shildon and would be interested in renting a space rather than a whole unit. To help the club, you can contact them via their webpage at shildonmrc.com.

Over the weekend of Saturday 19th and Sunday 20th October, thieves entered the housing devel-opment site on Spout Lane and stole 900 litres of red diesel. Thieves syphoned the

Diesel stolen from development site

diesel from a large bowser and drained it into an unknown container. If anyone has any informa-tion regarding this theft, they are urged to contact Shildon Police on the non-emergency number, 101.

Prolific shoplifter strikes again

Richard Wilson, aged 45, is a well-known shoplifter in the town, according to Shildon Police. He was captured on CCTV on Sunday 20th October stealing meat from Morri-

son’s store. He was subse-quently charged with theft and remanded to court. The court, on Monday 21st October, gave Wilson a conditional discharge for 12 months.

sions, reported strange and unexplainable occur-rences at the museum site.Join North East Paranor-mal Investigations as they search for the ghosts of Locomotion during the spookiest night of the year!Tickets are priced at £28 (numbers strictly limited so book in advance. Martin Taylor, of Scott Street, Shildon, pleaded guilty to a charge of theft of £9,711 from members of the Shildon Railway Insti-tute’s Touring Club when

he appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court recently. The 48 year-old appeared briefly, confirming his name, age and address, before entering his guilty plea. Taylor had acted as treas-urer for the Touring Club, collecting money every Sunday, which was to be put aside in a club safe. However, shortly before the theft came to light, Taylor had contacted another club member,

via a hand-written note, which said that he needed to speak with him about something bad that he’d done. The two subsequently met and Taylor told this other, unnamed male, that he had given around £11,000 to his brother, who was in danger of losing his house.Taylor was released on unconditional bail and will appear before Durham Crown Court sometime during the week com-mencing 25th November.

Danielle Millward, of New Park, Newfield, entered no plea to a charge of dangerous driving when she appeared at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates’ Court recently. The court heard that on 3rd July, police had received a 999 call from a woman who claimed that a VW Golf, driven by Millward, was at-tempting to ram her off the

road as she was driving on the A688 near Shildon. It was alleged that the VW Golf followed, bumper-to-bumper for miles, whilst Millward gestured and held up a knife before over-taking and blocking the victim’s vehicle, causing a collision.Police had witnessed Mill-ward’s driving, stating that there was “no distance

between the vehicles.”The Crown stated that the victim was in a relationship with Millward’s ex-partner and that police had recov-ered a butter knife and baseball bat from the VW. The defence made no representations. The de-fendant was released on unconditional bail and will appear at Durham Crown Court on 30th October.

Shildon AFC has announced the signings of both Craig Ruddy and Lee Kerr from Spennymoor Town.“We are really excited to have managed to bring both these players on board,” said Shildon Manager, Gary Forrest. He went on to say, “Craig Ruddy has been a great servant to Spennymoor Football Club and we hope he can deliver similar per-formances at Shildon.”Shildon AFC are playing their league game against Ashington on Friday night - 25th October - instead of

on Saturday. Manager Gary Forrest thought Friday night games could attract addi-tional support and he asks everyone to go along and prove him right. The draw for the 2nd Round of the F.A.
