CHRISTIANITY 1011 Havia um fariseu chamado Nicodemos, uma autoridade entre os judeus.2 Ele veio a Jesus, à noite, e disse: "Mestre, sabemos que ensinas da parte de Deus, pois ninguém pode realizar os sinais milagrosos que estás fazendo, se Deus não estiver com ele".3 Em resposta, Jesus declarou: "Digo a verdade: Ninguém pode ver o Reino de Deus, se não nascer de novo".4 Perguntou Nicodemos: "Como alguém pode nascer, sendo velho? É claro que não pode entrar pela segunda vez no ventre de sua mãe e renascer!"5 Respondeu Jesus: "Digo a verdade: Ninguém pode entrar no Reino de Deus se não nascer da água e do Espírito.6 O que nasce da carne é carne, mas o que nasce do Espírito é espírito.7 Não se surpreenda pelo fato de eu ter dito: É necessário que vocês nasçam de novo.8 O vento sopra onde quer. Você o escuta, mas não pode dizer de onde vem nem para onde vai. Assim acontece com todos os nascidos do Espírito".

CHRISTIANITY 1011 Now there was a man of the Pharisees named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews. 2 This man came to Jesus by night and said to him, “Rabbi, we know that you are a teacher come from God, for no one can do these signs that you do unless God is with him.”3 Jesus answered him, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus said to him, “How can a man be born when he is old? Can he enter a second time into his mother's womb and be born?” 5 Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born of water and the Spirit, he cannot enter the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Do not marvel that I said to you, ‘You must be born again.’ 8 The wind blows where it wishes, and you hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So it is with everyone who is born of the Spirit.”

•O fariseu Nicodemos era membro do supremo tribunal em Jerusalém o Sinédrio, era uma pessoa conhecida e influente. Era uma grande mente teológica e filosófica, pois conhecia, ensinava e praticava a lei.

•Mas Jesus o intrigava. Ele olhava os sinais e pensava: “Deus só pode estar com ele”. Sua mente inquiridora o levou a procurar Jesus na calada da noite, meio escondido, pois tinha uma imagem a ser preservada entre os líderes e o povo judeu.

•The Pharisee Nicodemus was a member of the supreme court in Jerusalem, the Sanhedrin, and was a well-known and influential person. He had a great theological and philosophical mind, for he knew, taught and practiced law.

•But Jesus intrigued. He looked at the signs and thought, "God can not be with him." His inquiring mind led him to seek Jesus in the night, half-hidden, because he had a picture to be preserved among the leaders and the Jewish people.

Nicodemos queria saber mais sobre Jesus, principalmente no que diz respeito ao Reino de Deus. Como quase todo judeu de sua época, ele tinha expectativa de um Messias político que restauraria o reino físico de Israel, livrando-os do domínio do império romano.

Nicodemus wanted to know more about Jesus, especially regarding the Kingdom of God. Like almost every Jew of his time, he had expected a political Messiah who would restore the physical kingdom of Israel, freeing them from the dominion of the Roman Empire.

• v.5 = Jesus não está impondo uma condição ritualista (o batismo em água) para fazer parte do seu reino, a mais provável interpretação é que Jesus está fazendo uma alusão à necessidade de arrependimento representado pelo batismo de João.

• v.5 = Jesus is not imposing a ritualistic condition (water baptism) to be part of his kingdom. The most probable interpretation is that Jesus is making an allusion to the need of repentance represented by the baptism of John.

• v.6 = A vida espiritual não é transmitida por processo natural. Em outras palavras, não existe um processo evolutivo da carne para o espírito.

• v.6 = The spiritual life is not transmitted by a natural process. In other words, there is no evolutionary process from the flesh to the spirit.

Ler João 3:9-12.

Apesar de toda sua herança religiosa, Nicodemos não tinha consciência espiritual do Reino de Deus. Ele pergunta a Jesus: “Como pode ser isso?”. Jesus responde mostrando porque lhe era tão difícil crer. Que obstáculos impediam Nicodemos de crer?

Despite all his religious heritage, Nicodemus was not aware of the spiritual dimension of the Kingdom of God. He asks Jesus, "How can this be?" Jesus responds showing why it was so hard for him to believe. What obstacles prevented Nicodemus to believe?

Ele não entende

Jesus primeiro coloca à prova toda a eficiência e especialidade que Nicodemos tinha na lei: “Você é mestre de Israel e não entende essas coisas?”.

He does not understand

Jesus first puts to the test all the efficiency and expertise that Nicodemus had in the law: "You are the teacher of Israel and do not understand these things?".

Ele não aceita

Em seguida, Jesus revela o grande obstáculo de Nicodemos e de seus companheiros fariseus: “Sinceramente, os meus discípulos e eu só falamos do que sabemos e vimos, mas vocês não aceitam o nosso testemunho”.

He does not accept

Then Jesus reveals the great obstacle of Nicodemus and his fellow Pharisees: "Truly, my disciples and I only speak of what we know and have seen, but you do not accept our testimony."

Para Nicodemos Jesus era só um mestre. Entretanto, Jesus prossegue revelando que ele não era apenas um mestre vindo “da parte de Deus” (v.2). Ele é “o Filho do homem” (v.13).

Finalmente, Jesus apresenta uma declaração clara e direta sobre sua missão:

To Nicodemus, Jesus was just a teacher. However, Jesus goes on to reveal that he was not only a master “from God" (v.2). He is "the Son of man" (v.13).

Finally, Jesus provides a clear and direct statement about His mission:

Porque Deus tanto amou o mundo que deu o seu Filho Unigênito, para que todo o que nele crer não pereça, mas tenha a vida eterna. (v.16).

“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (v.16).

Nicodemos estava na escuridão e encontrou a luz. Luz que mostrou como ele estava apegado à materialidade do seu conhecimento e de sua prática religiosa, como ele estava cego para as verdades espirituais.

Nicodemus was in darkness and found light. Light that showed how he was attached to the materiality of his knowledge and his religious practice, as he was blind to the spiritual truths.

Até que ponto as realidades visíveis têm impedido você de entender as verdades invisíveis?

Você está disposto a se abrir para a mensagem libertadora do Reino de Deus, ou está apegado às suas ideias pré-concebidas sobre Jesus Cristo?

To what extent have visible realities prevented you from understanding the invisible truths?

Are you willing to open up to the liberating message of the Kingdom of God, or are you attached to your preconceived ideas about Jesus Christ?
