PlanningProcessAcomprehensiveplanningcommitteewasidentifiedinFebruary,2018inaccordancewiththeguidelinesestablishedbythePennsylvaniaDepartmentofEducation.ThiscommitteebegantomeetinMay,2018.Thegoalofthecommitteewastousethecomprehensiveplanningprocesstosupportongoingeffortstoimproveacademicandtechnicalachievement.
Theteammetandworkedcollaborativelytodevelopgoalsandactionitems.
MissionStatementItisthemissionoftheCareerTechnologyCenterofLackawannaCounty(CTCLC)toprovidesecondarystudentswhohaveaspecificcareerobjectiveandhaveexpressedadesireforcareerandtechnicaleducation,withtheskillsandknowledgeneededforpostsecondaryeducationandemploymentcommensuratewiththeever-evolvingrequirementsofbusinessandindustry.Further,asaContinuingEducationresource,weatCTCLCshallmaintain,develop,augment,andpioneerprogramstobenefittheadult,post-secondarystudentswhocanprofitfromlife-longlearning.

EducationalCommunityTheCareerTechnologyCenterofLackawannaCounty(CTCLC)servesthestudentsfromeightmemberdistrictsaswellastuitionstudentsfromnon-memberdistricts.Currently,13highschoolsareserved.Ourdiversestudentpopulationiscomprisedofstudentsfromurban,rural,andsuburbansettings.TheCTCLCoffers17approvedcareerandtechnicalprogramswhicharethreeyearsinlengthtoapproximately675students.
CTCLCadherestoa"half-day-about"modelforprogramming.StudentsattendCTCLCforhalfoftheschooldayandtheirhomeschooldistricttheotherhalfoftheday.MathcoursesareofferedatCTCLCtostudentsfromdistrictsrequestingthatstudentsearnmathcredit.StudentshavetheopportunitytoparticipateinaformalCooperativeVocationalEducationprogramandhaveopportunitiestoworkinthefieldwithintheindividualprograms.Co-curricularactivities(i.e.SkillsUSA)areintegralcomponentsofthecurriculum.CTCLChasestablishedrelationshipswiththebusinesscommunitywhichsupportsstudents'effortsinplacement,sponsoringfieldtrips,providingguestspeakers,andprofessionalddevelopmentandinsupportingco-curricularandextra-curricularactivities.
Allplannedcoursesaresubjecttoon-goingreviewandarerevisedordevelopedtoincorporateacademicgoals.CTCLCprogramsareapprovedbytheBureauofCareerandTechnicalEducation,PennsylvaniaDepartmentofEducation.CTCLC'sContinuingEducationProgramisaccreditedbythePennsylvaniaStateBoardofVocationalEducation.CTCLChasarticulationanddualenrollmentagreementswithLuzerneCountyCommunityCollege,King'sCollege,KeystoneCollege,LackawannaCollegeandJohnsonCollege.
CTCLCworkscloselywithparticipatingdistrictstoassurethattheneedsofallstudentsareaddressed.TheCTCLCteammeetsregularlywithcounselors,transitioncoordinators,andadministratorsoftheparticipatinghighschoolsandtheNortheastIntermediateUnit#19.Instructionalaidesareavailabletoprovideassistancetostudentsandmathteachersdesignateclassperiodsfortutoringandprovidingremedialassistance.
EachapprovedprogramhasanOccupationalAdvisoryCommittee(OAC)thatsupportsoureffortsinaligningourprogramswithindustrystandards.EachOACiscomprisedofaminimumoffiveindustryexpertswhomeetaminimumoftwotimesperyear.ThepurposeoftheOACistostrengthenourprogrambyprovidingindustryexpertswiththeopportunitytomakerecommendationsforprogramimprovementstoensurethatthestudentsofCTCLChaveaccesstorelevantcurriculum,content,resources,tools,equipment,andtechnology.TheOACprovideguidanceandsupportregardingnationaltestingandindustrycertifications.Inaddition,theysupportCTCLCthroughcooperativeandclinicaljobplacements.
TheOACsthatservetheCTCLChaveproventobeaninvaluableresourcebyprovidingourteacherswithaccesstothemostcurrentinformationfromtheirindustry.

TheCTCLCbeganacomprehensivefacilityrenovationprogramintheFallof2013.The$18.1Milliondollarrenovationwasintendedtoupdatethefacilitythathadnotreceivedanysubstantialrenovationsinceoriginalconstructionintheearly1970s.Therenovationincludedasbestosandcreosoteabatement,replacementofthebuildingroof,refurbishmentofthebrickexteriorofthebuilding,replacementofthemajorityofthemechanical,electricalandplumbinginfrastructureofthebuilding.Inaddition,theclassroomsandprogramlabareaswererefurbishedand/orrebuilttoaccommodatethecurrentCTCprogramsofstudyandtosupporttheimplementationofnewprograms.Newequipmentandfixtures

wereprovidedinprogramlabareasasneededandasavailablefundingsupported.Thetechnologyinfrastructureofthebuildingwasmodernizedaswasthesupportfunctionsofheating/cooling,telephone,firealarm,firesprinklers,burglaralarmandbuildingaccesssystem.Asignificantnumberofsecuritycameraswerealsoaddedtothefacility.Therenovationprojectisprogressingonscheduleandwithinbudgetobjectiveswithananticipatedcompletionduringthesummerof2015.
