Arch. Luca Galofaro born in Rome, 19th of March 1965, Italian Nationality member of the Professional Order of Architects in Rome n. 9693 since 1992 Formation

Luca Galofaro has obtained the Diplome cum laude in Architecture in November 1990 at "La Sapienza" University, Rome. In 1992 he took part in the post degree course of Architectural Theory at the Faculty of Architecture, "La Sapienza" University, Rome. In 1993 he obtained the Master degree of Spatial Science at the International Space University, UHA Huntsville, Alabama. He presented his works of spatial architecture at the conferences Ideea-One (Huston, 1991), Space Environmental Control System (Florence, 1991), Ideea-Canada (Toronto, 1993).

He worked at Eisenman Architects in New York and he is author of several books published by Bruno Zevi´s collection of Universal Architecture and contributes to various magazines on architecture.

He is co-founder and member of IaN+ architecture from 1997

In 2015 he get the National certificate as Associated Professor Career brief IaN+ was set up in 1997 and materializes around the core of its three members with diverse professional formation and experience: Carmelo Baglivo (30.11.’64), Luca Galofaro (19.03.’65), for design project and theory, Stefania Manna (06.07.’69) for engineering. IaN+ multi-disciplinary agency aims at being a place where theory and practice of architecture overlap and meet.

Ian+ office, won the gold medal for Italian architecture in 2006, was nominee for the Iakov Chernikov Prize in 2011, received a honorable mention in the category Built Environment for the Zumtobel Award 2012 and was candidated for the Italian Architecture Gold Medal IV edition 2012. Ian+ was finalist to the Agha Kahn Award 2013. In 2006, with the "Tor Vergata University research laboratories”, they won the Italian Architecture Gold Medal for the first realized work; in 2010 they are selected for the International Iakov Chernikhov Prize of Experimental Architecture; in 2011 the “Maria Grazia Cutuli” primary school won the Prix Spécial – Catégorie Enseignants dell’Ecole Special d’Architecture, Paris. With the same project they received a honorable mention in the category Built Environment for the Zumtobel Award 2012 and they are finalist for the Italian Architecture Gold Medal 2012 edition. Their projects, “The house of Goethe”, “Fundaciò Mies van der Rohe New Headquarter” and “Microutopias” are part of the permanent collection of FRAC Centre (Fonds Régional d’Art Contemporain), which features experimental architectural projects. In 2012 “CheongNa City Tower” and “Emptiness” are integrated into the permanent collection of MAXXI Museum (Museo Nazionale delle Arti del XXI Secolo). They have been participating to many national and international architectural competitions, gaining several prizes and mentions. They won the first prize for the competition Busan Opera House (2011) and an honorable mention for the National Museum of Afghanistan (2012) “Social Housing Masterplan Cà D’oro - Mestre” in Venice (2010); they received an honorable mention for the “CheongNa City Tower” in Incheon, South Korea(2008).

In 2015 They are shortilisted for the International Competition Città della scienza In Rome Currently IaN+ is involved in the construction of a public swimming pool, and an office building in Rome; Two buildings of “Ospedale del Mare” in Naples were completed in March 2015, and a small pavilion open in Seoul in 2014. Therefore, some interior design projects are under construction, like the refurbishment of “Grottaferrata Town Hall” and several apartments. Their built projects are: Hall Ospedale del Mare in Naples, “Maria Grazia Cutuli” Primary School in Herat, Afganistan designed with Mario Cutuli, 2a + p/a and Ma0 (2010); the City of Rome’s urban intervention in Falcognana, whose masterplan includes a system of squares, a park and two public buildings for the local community (2010); the interior design of the Cittadella multi-storey underground parking in Verona (2010); the Research Laboratories for Tor Vergata University in Rome (2006); the renovation of the urban centre of Cocciano-Frascati with three squares (2008).

Luca Galofaro in 1997 organized the exhibition American Architecture @ the edge of Millennium in Rome, guested afterwards at UCLA in Los Angeles and at Parson School of Design in New York.

He carry on teaching activities in workshops and design course in several school of Architecture and Design from 1992 Luca Galofaro carry on teaching activities in workshops and design seminars at the European Institute of Design in Rome, at the Polytechnic University in Milan, at the Faculty La Sapienza in Rome and at the UIC Chicago University of Illinois. He was visiting professors in 2006, 2009 and 2012 at Cornell University (Rome Program). In 2004 they held a seminar in the Korean National University of Arts, Department of Architecture of Seoul. From 2009 he had a collaboration with the Tunghai architecture program in Rome. From 2009 to 2012 he was visiting professor at Ecole Speciale d’Architecture in Paris. Luca Galofaro is selected for the Italian Pavillion at the Venice Biennale 2014. IaN+ projects have been selected for many exhibitions all around the world. Among them, “Testify! The consequences of architecture” at NAi Rotterdam(2011); the Venice Biennale (2000, 2004, 2008, 2010,2014); “Instant Urbanism” at Swiss Museum of Architecture in Basel (2007); the Brazilian Architecture Biennale in San Paolo (2007); the London Biennale of Architecture( 2006); “Talking Cities”. In 2004 they exhibit at the first Beijing Biennale of Architecture and at ArchiLab (2000, 2001 2002) in Orléans (France); Architopia, Biennal Utopia, International Exhibition for Architecture in Cascais, Portugal(2000). “IaN+_ Models of Architecture 1997-2005”, at the Adriano Olivetti Foundation, was the first solo exhibition in Rome (2006); in the same year they were invited at “P.A.N. (Progressive Architecture Network)”, guested in Frederieke Taylor Gallery, New York. In 2007 they had a solo show at FRAC Centre in Orleans, “IaN+ Nouvelle écologie des systèmes vivants”, and they were invited to the “Holland-Italy - 10 Works of Architecture” exhibition at MAXXI Museum in Rome. In 2009 “The British School at Rome” organized the IaN+ solo exhibition “London - Rome: work in progress”. Ian+ gave lectures in Lisboa, Seoul, Philadelphia, Barcelona, Chicago, Darmstadt, London, Paris, Zurich, Graz, Milan, Rotterdam, Mendrisio, San Diego, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Venice, Florence, Pescara and Rome. They were visting critics at Berlage Istitute (Rotterdam), Architectural Association (Londra), IaaC ( Barcellona), UPenn University (Philadelphia), Asia University ( TAichung-Taiwan), The Bartlett School of Architecture (Londra).
