Positive Discipline Main goal for this semester is for

students to begin to develop intrinsic motivation to make good choices.

When they do not, the goal is for the students to gain understanding as to why it was a wrong choice and how we as a community can work through it to make better choices next time we are faced that decision.

Student Absences/Tardies

I will collect missed work for students who are absent. Students will receive the missed assignments upon their return to school.

Please plan vacations around the school calendar. It is extremely important that your child is at school every day.

Please make sure that your child is in the classroom by 8:05. The earlier the better!

Why Common Core?

To ensure that all students, no matter where they live, are prepared for success in postsecondary education and the workforce.

To ensure that students are receiving a high quality education consistently, from school to school and state to state.

To provide a greater opportunity to share experiences and best practices within and across states that will improve our ability to best serve the needs of students.

Meeting Your Child’s Needs Throughout each subject, your child will

experience differentiated instruction. We work to identify your children’s

individual strengths, areas for growth, learning styles, and academic needs in order to implement instruction that allows for a positive and productive learning experience.

This may look like: station teaching, small group guided instruction, reader’s workshop, flexible grouping, different classwork and homework assignments based on learning needs, etc.

Spanish Lots of fun this school year during

Spanish class at The Globe. I will be using the Georgia Performance Standards for Modern Languages (GPS) based on Standards for Foreign Language Learning in the 21st Century and the ACTFL Performance Guidelines for K-12 Learners (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Language).

For the Science, lead teacher and I will be working together to plan according to the Georgia Standards in Science for 3rd grade.

Communication Examples: Work in pairs to exchange information:

Role-play a real-world task such as conducting a telephone conversation, purchasing a ticket, ordering a meal, making a reservation. Describe something or someone.

Work in pairs or groups on a sequencing activity, such as retelling a story, putting sentences or pictures in order, creating a storyboard.

Page 25: Curriculum Night. Mrs. Whitfield –Spanish Track Ms. Besic—Spanish Track Mrs. Hemingway—Spanish Teacher Ms. Rainey—French Track Ms. White—French Track

Research, plan and participate in a cultural event, such as foreign language festivals, cultural celebrations or state conventions (Hispanic Heritage month, Holidays in Latino America, Cinco de Mayo)

Create and produce a skit or situational role-play on a cultural aspect.
