AGRICULTURAL LOGISTICS PROGRAM IN GHANA

ADM, WCF, KNUST UNIVERSITY & SAFMARINE

June 2011 marked the offical open-ing of a new educational program in Kumasi, Ghana. The Agricul-tural Logistic Skills DevelopmentProgram will give 30 students the opportunity to learn more about agriculture, logistics, supply chain, warehousing and socio-economic issues.

I supported putting together a pro-gram that will allow the students to develop a profound understanding of the challenges in the supply chain and will encourage them to work to-wards finding sustainable solutions.

SAFMARINE HERCULES TROPHY 100% FUN, 100% EXHAUSTING

EVENTS, FUND RAISING, PR & SOCIAL MEDIA

Together with some colleagues, I organised several times Safma-rine’s annual Hercules Trophy event for 800 employees and customers from all over the world.

Hercules was ‘big’ in every way. Not only 96 teams take on the challenge presented by the 12 ‘labours’, but they also showed their support for the fund raising campaigns I organ-ised before and during the event.

To share experiences, pictures and videos, I created a special website, YouTube and Facebook page.

HELPING YOUNG SEAFARERS IN INDIA

CARGILL, SAILORS’ SOCIETY & SAFMARINE

I joined our customer Cargill and the Sailors’ Society in establishing theKakinadaMaritimeCommunityCentre in the East coast of India.

From the first day I was in charge of the planning, the negotiations and the execution of the project.

The objective is to promote the practical, physical, educational and recreational needs of seafarers and will recruit and guide young seafar-ers in their seafaring career. It is es-timated that the centre will attract 5,000 young seafarers per year.

SAFMARINE’S VESSEL NAMING EVENTS IN GERMANY

As member of the ‘naming team’ I took part in organising five vessel naming ceremonies & events at the VolkswerftStralsundShipyard.

Duringaspecial“doublehull”eventone of the container vessels was named by Mrs Dr. Angela Merkel.This resulted in a lot of media, visi-tors and security.

These 5-days during events were a perfect opportunity to celebrate the partnership between Safmarine, its customers and colleagues from all over the world.

EDUCATION FOR RUBBER-FARMING COMMUNITY IN LIBERIA

SOCFINCO, LAC & SAFMARINE

I helped to build a primary school based on the Liberia Agricultural Company (LAC) rubber plantation.

Five teachers are trained to teach a total of five classes of about 50 stu-dents each. The goal is to empower this rubber-farming community by providing better opportunities for primary education.

One of the aims for the school will be to address the past inequality in education, ensuring that young girls are given the same opportuni-ties for education as boys.

SAFMARINE’S ‘THEME MONTHS’ ARE FAST BECOMING A TRADITION

AWARENESS & BRANDING CAMPAIGNS

I launched the People & Planet initiatives globally, which focus on specific ‘theme months’ and ‘world days’; many of the Safmariners - and customers - showed their sup-port for issues related to health, water, environment and people.

Safmariners had to learn, to get in-volved, to create awareness, to act and to share their experiences with others. Result: many Safmarine Navigator magazinesshowedhighlightsofthegreat initiatives which took place around the world.

These projects are proof of what can be achieved when we work closely together to implement corporate social responsibility projects. Not only do these projects benefit the communities we serve, but they also help to strengthen our relationships with key customers
