enior Army leaders signed the Army Family Covenant in October 2007 and pledged to support Soldiers’ Families while they defend the nation. “The health of our all-volunteer force, our Soldier-volunteers, our Family-volunteers, depends on the health

of the Family. The readiness of our all-volunteer force depends on the health of the Families,” said Mr. Pete Geren, Secretary of the Army. “I can assure you that your Army leadership understands the important contribution each and every one of you makes. We need to make sure we step up and provide the support Families need so the Army Family stays healthy and ready.” Chief of Staff of the Army, General George W. Casey, said the Army wants to provide Soldiers and their Families with a level of support commensurate with their level of service, and the covenant is in direct response to concerns from Army Families. “We recognize the commitment and increasing sacrifices that our Families are making every day. In order to access outstanding child care and enrichment programs, your first stop is with the friendly folks at Parent Central Services where you will register your children with CYSS. Registration is FREE, but individual ser-vices may require a fee. Bldg 121, 761st Tank Battalion Avenue, across from the Mega Food Court 254-287-8029.

Registration Services Registration is available Monday - Thursday, 7:30 am - 3 pm and Friday, 7:30 am - 12 pm. Participation in any CYSS activity requires a completed, annual CYSS registration. Once received by Parent Central Services, SNAP forms require 7-10 business days for processing. Patrons seeking to complete an annual registration update are recom-mended to turn in the required SNAP forms at least 14 days in advance to Parent Central Services.

Soldier and Family Assistance Center (SFAC) The CYSS SFAC Liaison is available to assist Soldiers assigned to the Warrior Transition Brigade (WTB) and their Families with all their CYSS needs. Families can register with CYSS and get infor-mation about CYSS programs and activities. Child care is also available for all SFAC appointments. SFAC is lo-cated at Bldg 36042 Darnall Loop and is open Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm. Call 254-287-8659 for more information.

School Liaison Services (SLS) School Liai-son Officers work with, and help support, eight sur-rounding school districts in the Fort Hood area. The school districts include Belton, Copperas Cove, Flor-ence, Gatesville, Killeen, Lampasas, Salado and Temple. The SLO office is located in the Rivers Building, across from the Mega Food Court, and is open Monday-Friday, 7:30am - 4:30 pm. Call 254-288-7946 to talk with a School Liaison Officer.

Army Child Care in Your Neighborhood(ACCYN) The U.S. Army and the National Associa-tion of Child Care Resource & Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) have joined forces to help Army Families find and pay for quality off-post child care through Army Child Care in Your Neighborhood (ACCYN). The Army supports developing high-quality child care spaces in off-post child care centers that have the potential to become nationally accredited. The objec-tive of this project is to ensure civilian child care programs provide care to Army Families that are com-parable in quality to Army operated on-post spaces. As with any child care program made available by the Army, one of the most important aspects of child care for parents is to have peace of mind knowing that their children are in safe, nurturing child care settings while they work, attend school or are deployed. Call Parent Central Services at 254-287-8029 for additional information and referrals.

Child Development Centers (CDCs) CDCs of-fer full-day, part-day, and hourly care programs for chil-dren 6 weeks - 5 years of age. A developmentally ap-propriate curriculum for young children is planned by the teaching staff with attention to the different needs, interests, and developmental levels of children who attend. Hourly care services are available at Chaffee Child Development Center. Hourly care is short-term child care for children whose parents have a medical/dental appointment, volunteer commitment, or just need some respite time. Reservations may be made up to one month in advance. The CDC part-day pro-grams change every year as the needs of the patrons change. The program for preschool age children nor-mally follows the Killeen ISD school year calendar. All CDCs offer trained teaching staff, balanced meals, age-appropriate developmental activities and are nation-ally accredited!

Family Child Care - The Family Child Care program is a professionally managed network of adult individuals certified to provide child care in on-post government quar-ters and in their off-post homes for children four weeks to 10 years and provide programs such as extended hours [for parents who must go on temporary duty (TDY) or field as-signments] or special needs care. FCC homes may also offer hourly care services, part-day care, or before and after school care. FCC providers are certified after meeting basic regula-tory requirements and their homes are regularly monitored by FCC staff and inspected for fire, health and safety compli-ance. In addition, FCC providers work to obtain National As-sociation for Family Child Care (NAFCC) accreditation using the same high standards and are encouraged to participate in special activities. Child Development Home An alternative program to the regular Child Development Center and Family Child Care home is available to parents at the Child Development (CD) Home. The CD Home is operated in set of a govern-ment quarters, offers the best of FCC in a home environment while being staffed by Child and Youth Program Assistants as in a Child Development Center. It is specifically designed to offer infant care, respite care, hourly care, extended hours care, emergency care and transition care with special needs and services. The CD Home is staffed by a team of well-trained professionals that have either Child Developmental Associate credentials or Associate Degrees in Early Child-hood Education, are flexible, demonstrate leadership, and have made the CD Home a safe and nurturing environment for children. Their professionalism and dedication make this child care option a quality program.

Kids On-Site (KOS) Kids On-Site provides on site child care for children between the ages of 6 weeks and 12 years. Call us to make arrangements for your next Fam-ily Readiness Group (FRG) meeting, social event, retreat or gathering. KOS also provides child care at Abrams Fit-ness Center and the Comprehensive Soldier Fitness Facil-ity. For more information call 254-288-2141

SUMMER SPECTRUM DAY CAMP ACTIVITIESSAC

SCHOOL AGE CARE School Age Care offers before and after-school hours, during school-out days, for spring and winter breaks, and all summer long for children kindergarten through 5th grade. The cost is only $4 per hour for up to 5 hours a week, $30 for more than 4 daily hours, $16 for less than 4 daily hours. School Age Care’s rates are based on total Family income and include all trips, activities and meals/snacks). The Outdoor Sport Fishing Camp in Round Rock Date: July 28Time: 8 am to 5 pm.Location: Bronco Youth CenterDescription: Bring Sun screen and bug spray. We will provide the fishing gear. The Texas Master Natu-ralist and 4-H will assist with this event. The Boy Scouts will teach about fire building and knot tying. Teens will interact with youth from other military installations and learn angling skills, tackle crafting, aquatic ecology, fish biology, etc. Lunch will be pro-vided. Teen Taxi is an after school (Monday-Friday) pick-up service which transports youth to designated Fort Hood Youth Centers. This service is FREE and open to middle school youth and high school teens who are eligible to attend the Fort Hood Youth Centers.

Capture the Moment Dive into the world of visual arts and capture pr ice less moments . Learn the bas ics of d ig i ta l

photography, head to the field to capture the moments and frame your favorite picture. The class will culminate with a gallery showing at Apache

Arts and Crafts Center of all of the photos.

Warm Glass Fusion A high-end craft in the arts and crafts world, melted glass or glass fusing is an emerging popular craft. Youth will learn the

basics of glass fusing and create four projects—tile, square plate, round bowl and draping. The class will conclude with a gallery showing of the youth’s creations.

Claymation In this one of a kind workshop, clay is the main ingredient for creativity! Youth will draw up a story board, then create characters and settings and finally, bring the story to life with digital cameras and laptops.

Passion for Fashion Explore the world and the design elements of the fashion industry. Youth will learn fashion trends throughout history and explore designing their own fashion designs on paper.

What’s Poppin’? Pop Art Workshop Youth will learn pop art techniques and history. Through a combination of various media youth will create stylized Pop Art creations. The program will conclude with a showing of the youth’s work.

Ceramics Get a feel for clay! Students will gain experiences in making functional as well as sculptural pieces, using a variety of techniques to include the pouring of molds. Well thought-out forms, designs and functional uses along with good craftsmanship are emphasized. Students will also have the opportunity to paint, fire and glaze their masterpieces.

Fashion Design II Explore the world of fashion by designing, constructing and sewing garments. At the conclusion of the fashion design workshop, youth will display their work in a fashion showcase.

Lights, Camera, Action… Ever wonder what went into television or film production? Go behind the lens of the camera to produce your own commercials and movie shorts. The program will include filming at various locations and editing of the video. No previous experience is necessary and all equipment is provided.

DJ 101 Ever wonder what it is like to step behind the turntables and mix? This introductory class will teach the fundamentals of DJing. Whether you want to dj parties, battle or learn a new hobby this class if for you.

Design Your Own Deck Express your graphic and design talents on a unique canvas- a skateboard deck. Youth will take a blank skateboard deck and use a variety of mediums to create their own design! At the completion of the process the youth will have the opportunity to keep their custom designed board.

Get Styling Have you ever wondered what it takes to be a cosmetologist? Is it just hair styling or does it encompass more? Express Your Self – Speech and Communica-tion Shake the jitters of speaking in front of a large audience through the edge Express Yourself Program – Speech and Communication. Students will learn the fundamentals of public speaking through fun and exciting group interaction and presentations. Topics will include: preparation, projection, articulation, rapport, body language, gestures, stage movement, controlling nervous energy and overall confidence.

Let’s Get Baking Taught by the talented chefs of the Central Texas College culinary program, youth will be introduced to the fun and exciting world of baking! The program will cover the fundamentals of baking, and youth will have the opportunity to bake cookies, cakes, and more. Each week the youth will bring home a tasty treat for their Families to sample.

Music Production Production Learn to record, use loops, sample, mix, master and output to make professional music right on your desktop computer or laptop! Utilizing the latest digital audio production equipment and computers, students will learn a variety of techniques to produce outstanding digital audio under the supervision of an industry pro.

Tee Off Build character and integrity in this gentlemen’s game. Learn the FUNdamentals from golf pro Chuck Mcphilomy and receive hands on guidance by one of the best. This program is for beginners and an opportunity to introduce newcomers to the sport. Hone your skills, because the final round will include a competition and the chance to win prizes.

Strike! Strike up an interest and polish your game of bowling at Phantom Warrior Lanes. Work with cer-tified instructors to practice your grip and form and in no time you will be bowling strikes. Fun and excite-ment won’t be spared with a pizza and ice cream party to conclude the program.

Hip Hop Workshop This class will teach choreography from popular hip hop artists, dance teams and choreographers. Original moves from the instructor will also be incorporated. The class will also focus on the foundations of hip hop body movement.

Boot Camp Challenge Blitz Let’s move this summer! Youth will have the opportunity to increase their fitness skills and athleticism, bilateral performance and speed with pre and post sports screenings, nutri-tional coaching and group workouts.

Bullseye… You’ll hit the target as you develop the FUNdamental skills of archery. Learn that safety comes first in this action-packed activity, hone your shooting skills (short and medium distance), have a little target practice, and pay close attention to your instructor because the final day you will have the opportu-nity to compete for prizes.

Reel ‘em In! Get hooked on fishing this spring season. Learn the ins and outs of becoming a great fisherman, to include respecting the environment, learning about the equipment, fish identification, tying lures, and more. This hands on adventure will be taught by an experienced outdoorsman from Fort hood’s own Sportsman Center.

Mountain Biking Get an introduction to off road riding and mountain biking riding. The course will cover proper bike set-up, trail side etiquette, braking techniques, shifting, negotiating sand, mud, logs and other fun stuff. This activity is geared toward beginner level mountain bike riders.

Are you ready to take the plunge? Dive into the unique experience of an underwater adventure. Learn open water SCUBA diving from the certified dive masters of C & J Divers. Through this program students will learn the fundamentals of scuba diving, including dive equipment and tech-niques. They will also have the opportunity to receive an open water PADI cer-tification and college credit. Students are required to provide their own bathing suits, towels, and must be able to swim.

Climb to New Heights Rocks, boulders, and more, oh my! Over-coming obstacles is just part of the challenge in this activity. Climb to new heights, as you develop the basic skills of indoor rock climbing. Learn the basics of rock climbing and climber etiquette, to include how to tie knots and belay your fellow climbers.

Adrenaline Rush High Adrenaline, action-packed adventure awaits you as you go off road ATV style. Never rode before? That’s great! Certified in-structor Jon Elliott will teach what you need to know to hit the road – SAFELY. All equipment is provided, but wear long pants and closed toed shoes and be prepared to get messy.

Outdoor Adventure Outdoor Adventure Experience the great outdoors of Texas. Youth will develop a variety of outdoor skills through activities such as mountain biking, orientating, Texas survivor activities and more!

SUMMER • Youth HIRED! Apprentice Program

Apprentice Program The Youth HIRED! Apprentice Program provides 15 - 18 year old youth with professionally-managed career explo-ration opportunities in Family and MWR operations. Par-ticipants receive valuable paid work experience, as well as training and skills needed for the highly-competitive job market.

How It WorksTeens may participate in a maximum of two (12 - week) apprentice terms per year* and will receive a stipend check at the end of the completed term. Youth are re-quired to complete 15 hours of work in a seven day pe-riod. As part of the program, youth will receive college and work preparatory workshops.
