1.1 Product Introduction Olivetti is fast becoming one of the most prolific providers of highly sought-after A4 MFP products. The launch of its 40 ppm desktop A4 MFPs, the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF, are testament to that on-going strategy to provide the right product for virtually every printing, copying and scanning application; with the added provision of fax functionality on the d-Copia 404MF. Research from industry analysts, Gartner, has shown that the mid-range A4 MFP market is set to grow, markedly, over the next 3 years, while the lower and higher fields are expected to show a slow decline. Olivetti has already anticipated this and these 2 products join their range of successful MFPs to offer workgroups and corporate offices an opportunity to improve productivity, enhance reliability and save costs to the same extent as an A3 model. The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF offer standard duplex and RADF, a paper capacity of up to 2,100 A4 sheets and both have a scanning speed of 35 ppm, in mono, and colour scanning at 13 ppm, which provides outstanding levels of flexibility. What is more they both provide advanced IPsec, SSL and LDAP capabilities to enable full network security and facilitate document sharing through scan-to-email, scan-to-FTP and scan-to-USB. The reliability aspect of these models lies in their long-life components. Their high capacity toner and 300,000 page drum, minimise the machines’ running costs to deliver high quality and massive savings for the user. These two products offer huge savings on energy consumption and around 60% less running costs than their nearest rivals but where they really stand out is in their productivity and reliability for office workgroups. 1.2 Product Concept The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF are designed for medium to large workgroups and individual users with particularly exacting requirements. They are robust A4 monochrome multi-functional systems offering high productivity. These new devices fit smoothly into the existing Olivetti A4 product line-up thanks to the same design, driver, security features as the d-Copia 283MF and d-Copia 284MF series. Although designed as compact desktop devices, these two products reach a printing and copying speed of 40ppm and are able to replace entry-level A3 devices in the office. The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF are ideal solutions to optimise the

customer’s printing fleet, particularly so as customers are seeking device consolidation and unification.

The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF are perfect to replace the competitors’ A3

MFPs while preventing the competition from replacing Olivetti Segment 1b A3 MFPs with their own A4 MFPs.

New to the range The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF do not replace any existing product but extend and enhance Olivetti’s monochrome MFPs catalogue at the top end of A4 monochrome MFPs, completing the A4 offer above the current d-Copia 283MF / d-Copia 284MF which are already very successful models.

In Western Europe the Digital monochrome MFP market will grow in the coming years, but only in the A4 part of it (+7% CAGR 2009-2014), while the A3 devices will remain stable (0% CAGR 2009-2014). On the other hand, the digital colour MFP market will increase steadily, with a stronger ratio in the A4 (+23% CAGR 2009-2014) than in the A3 (+8% CAGR 2009-2014).

In the 31–40ppm segment, the A3 MFP products, counted for 57% of all monochrome MFP shipments in 2009. However, the A4 models in this market segment are increasing quite steadily in terms of market acceptance in medium to large businesses and their year-on-year growth is extraordinary, even in a tough year such as 2009 (+86% in 2009 vs 2008). In 2008 this segment was dominated by HP with 81% of the market share, with the balance in Xerox’s hands. The following year, many other vendors launched new products in this 31–40ppm segment and the unit sales were much more balanced between HP, Lexmark, Samsung, Xerox and Dell:

2.3.2 Familiar Control Panel for Ease of Operation

1) The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF operator panel includes the same function selection button as d-Copia 283MF series. This increases the user comfort because panels are the same even when operating on different devices.

2) In order to simplify access to the Fax (for the d-Copia 404MF only) function, an individual Fax Button is made available as it can be the most important and the most frequently used function for some customers. 3) 11 One Touch Keys are embedded in the Operation Panel and can be programmed with 2 addresses per key for a total of 22 addresses. The Customer can record the most frequently used addresses such as business partners, server address for headquarters and other branch offices. 4) Using the program key, it is possible to select a combination of settings and to save them into one program key; the same settings can be recalled again by pressing the corresponding button on the operation panel. 4 Program keys are available on the operator panel. For example, you could save to the program key the combination of copy settings that you most frequently use, such as copying 2 originals on to 1 side plus duplex printing plus ECO COPY. On the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF Program key #1 is pre-set with the “ID Card Copy” setting. This convenient feature allows you to copy both the front and the back sides of driver licenses, passports and other certificates in their original size on one side of an A4 sheet. 2.3.3 Key Features for Office I.T. Environments SSL - Office users handle various types of important documents such as personal and confidential information. The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF support SSL protocol transmissions between terminals and devices in order to handle important documents in a safe printing environment. SSL prevents the decoding of original data with encryption. Even in the case of data theft from unauthorised access, with SSL transmissions, data is encoded so it cannot be decoded by 3rd parties.



Compatible with IPv6 - This series is also compatible with advanced internet protocols (IP) such as IPv6. With these protocols, users can handle valuable information in a secure user environment. IPsec, IPP Over SSL 2.3.4 Card Authentication Kit The market is asking more and more for MFPs to be able to handle Authentication methods such as Card Readers. For this reason, the compatibility with an external Card Reader has been introduced in Olivetti monochrome MFPs starting with the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF. Compatibility will be extended also to many of the A3 monochrome models already present in the Olivetti catalogue, in order to create consistency across most of the current Olivetti monochrome devices. Card Authentication Kit (CAK) - The MFP can become compatible with an external Card Reader by activating its compatibility with the MFP firmware, through the optional Card Authentication Kit. This kit is necessary to activate the “sleeping” function embedded in the MFPs firmware. The kit contains a procedure and a unique code to be used on the MFP that has to be linked to the Card Reader. External Card Readers - The following types of third party Card Readers are compatible with Olivetti monochrome MFPs, however, Olivetti does not offer any sales / technical support for third-party External Card Readers: RFIdeas (HID Type): RDR-6081AKU SCM (Mifare Type): SCL010 ELATEC (Legic Type): TWN3-LEGIC

! CAK does not support Equitrac Solutions. Equitrac & CAK are two different types of solutions. Equitrac & CAK card readers are not compatible ! The RDR-7L81AKU card reader from RFIdeas did not pass quality assurance due to power requirement in excess of the USB standard. Therefore Olivetti recommends NOT to use this card reader



Other card readers from the same vendors or other vendors have not been tested. Therefore, they may, or may not work with CAK depending on their individual criteria. CAK Support planned for the following models: d-Copia 403MF/404MF end of 2010 d-Copia 3001MF early 2011 d-Copia 4200MF/5200MF early 2011 Current Olivetti printers cannot be equipped with CAK, because printers do not have the ability to authenticate incoming IC Card Reader transmissions. The Authentication function is carried out by the memory / HDD inside the main unit, much like the 'Job Accounting' function found in the Systems Menus of the A3 MFP. Trial Mode A Trial Mode is available for products that support CAK. This may be activated up to 3 times for a period of 30 days each. This is useful for demonstration purposes in case dealers do not have CAK in stock and need to do an immediate demonstration. ID Card Register The ID Card Register is a separate solution for IT administrators. With this utility, they can create the Authentication code between multiple IC Cards and the Card Readers from their PC, without needing the Card Reader to be connected to the main unit. 2.3.5 Extended Life of the RADF By introducing a dedicated Maintenance Kit, it is possible to extend the life of the RADF to 450,000 scanned pages. A maximum of 2 Maintenance Kits for the RADF can be replaced in the life of the engine: RADF MK Kit yield = 150,000 scanned documents RADF has a scan yield of 150,000 + additional Kit 150,000 + additional Kit 150,000 = 450,000 The RADF life of the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF is up to 4.5 times longer than that of the ADF for the d-Copia 283MF series (100,000), so customers can comfortably use the new devices over a longer period of time.



2.4 New Printer Driver v5.1 Print Preview The new Printer Driver v5.1 offers a Print Preview that lets users see how the printed pages will be displayed with all current driver settings applied before the document is sent to the printer. This is unlike previews in Windows programs, such as Microsoft Office, which only show the document as created by the application. For example, when a user specifies 2 in 1 in MS Word, 2 in 1 style of preview is not shown by MS Word’s preview, but it can be shown by the Printer Driver v5.1 Print Preview:

The user can view all pages in the current print job and then choose to print the pages or to cancel the print job. This feature is especially helpful to avoid wasting paper and toner. Print Preview can be enabled and disabled in the drivers Basic Tab menu: Limitations Print Preview has a few limitations, mostly caused by the differences in rendering on the PC and the printer:

The Print Preview page is based on the document’s paper size. If the user has different sized paper in the cassette, the preview will not match the print out size

Print Preview naturally displays the front and back of duplex print outs as separate pages

Print Preview will not show watermarks



Editable Quick Print Tab Printer Driver v5.0 offered a new Quick Print Tab to improve usability for many customers who wanted an easier way to set print options. In Printer Driver v5.1, administrators can now add or remove buttons in the Quick Print Tab. Procedure of Editing the Quick Print Tab is as follows: i. Open device Properties from “Device and Printers” located in Windows Start menu ii. Click “Printing Preferences” from the correct printer (right mouse click to see menu) iii. Click “Edit Quick Print…” in the Quick Print Tab iv. Add or delete controls in “Edit Quick Print” screen. A maximum 5 buttons can be

selected to be shown.



Application Based Profiles - Administrators / users can fine tune printing options for every application to find the right balance between cost savings, quality, and security.

For example, for text applications or email programs, some organisations might want to save paper and toner by enabling Ecoprint and using duplex mode and 2up to print 4 pages per sheet of paper. Creating application based profiles is very intuitive and completely integrated into the Printer Driver profile feature. After creating a profile, the user chooses an application by entering the application name or browsing to the native software and save the association. By default, all future prints from this application will be printed with the selected settings. The user can override the settings for individual print jobs by changing the settings in the printing preferences. Edit via the Quick Print Tab menu: i. If desired profile is not defined, add the profile in the “Profiles” settings ii. In Profiles screen, click “Application…”

iii. Click “Add” button in “Application Based Printing” screen



iv. Enter Association Name and File name, then choose associated profile

v. In Administrator Settings check “Associate Profile with application”



GUI Lock - Allows administrators to lock certain settings in Printer Driver v5.1 and disable the associated controls. In contrast to the application based profiles, this lock affects all files printed. As an option, the administrator can define a password that lets users unlock the settings either for individual applications, or globally from Printers and Faxes.

Smart Duplex - Duplex printing is a commonly used setting to save paper. When duplex is set, the paper goes through the printer’s duplex unit so that the front and the back sides are printed, regardless of whether there is a back side to print. If there is no back side to print, it is not necessary for the paper to go through the duplex unit. Single Page Smart Duplex automatically skips the duplex unit in the following cases to speed up printing and save wear on the duplex unit:

A one-page print job Printing only one page from a multi-page print job Any multi-page document printed with driver settings that can print into a single

page o For example: 2-up printing of a 2-page document or 16-up printing of a

10-page document Skip Blank Pages - Automatically skips printing blank pages during print jobs to speed up printing and save paper. The definition of a blank page is a page that contains no data; or one space character at most. This feature is only supported in PCL XL. Adjustment Graphic Settings - Image compression mode lets you select a method for compressing images depending on the desired quality required in printed images. JPEG compression produces a lower quality image, while delta row compression produces a higher quality image but creates a larger file size. Image compression mode is available when KPDL or PCL XL is selected as the PDL. Supported OS Printer Driver v5.1 is compatible with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, 7, Server 2003, Server 2008 and Server 2008 R2.

3.3 Key USP – High Reliability and Durability The d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF offer both long-life and robust design for high print volume environments. The products are designed on the same base engine as the PG L2040 that received very high ratings from 3rd party industrial analysts including BLI and BERTL.

The maintenance duty cycle of the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF is 4 times that of HP’s LJ M3035MFP! d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF = 300,000 pages HP LJ M3035MFP = 75,000 pages If over a 4 year period a customer had a monthly print volume of say 5,000 sheets, our product series would not require a single maintenance kit. The HP LJ M3035MFP would require 3 maintenance visits under the same conditions. Also, our product series has a toner yield of 15,000 pages, which is 1.15 times higher than the volume of HP’s LJ M3035MFP (13,000 pages). Again, if used over 4 years at a monthly print volume of 5,000 sheets, the d-Copia 403MF and d-Copia 404MF would need 16 toner cartridges, while the HP’s LJ M3035MFP would require 19 toners.
