Unfortunately, much of the grass that has sprout up from the rain has already dried out and poses a very large fire hazard. San Diego County, state and local fire officials are advising residents to obey the law and create 100 feet of defensible space for the safety of their homes and for firefighters. Defensible space is 30 feet of lean, clean and green zone and 70 feet of reduced fuel zone. Learn how to create defensible space around your home, and prepare for wildfires with CAL FIRE'S 'Ready for Wildfire' app. Download the app for access to checklists, wildfire alerts and fire incident pages. Share Your Love of Reading Studies show that reading aloud to young children can help them become motivated, strong readers, so I was excited to share my love for reading with kindergartners from Walker Child Development Center. Who wouldn't want to read 'The Pout Pout Fish Far, Far From Home' to these kids!? Learn how you can volunteer with Words Alive to read aloud to children at schools around the city.
