This, of course, is the month when we gather all of the information from 2018 for our reporting to the Northern District. This will involve many hours, organizing information submitted by members. It is important to keep records for the state and national organizations. But we would like to reflect on our local organization - GFWC Dominion Woman's Club - first. We have been given a special honor by the mayor of the town of Haymarket. Monday night, January 7, Mayor Leake presented the "Mayor's Volunteer of the Year" award to our club. Our connection with the town of Haymarket this past year has been strong. We have been involved with Carried to Full Term, Gravely Elementary School, Haymarket Elementary School, PACE West School, Haymarket Regional Food Pantry, the garden around the Haymarket sign, Haymarket Day, the Pinwheel Garden, knitting scarves for the homeless at "Needles in the Haymarket", cookie donations to local first responders, Friends of the Haymarket/Gainesville Library, and scholarships at Battlefield High School. NEWS ‘N NOTES

Before we move on to the exciting adventures awaiting us in 2019, we need to look back at 2018 for a moment.

So many volunteer service hours and donations were given by dedicated, caring members of DWC.

We are looking forward to a new year of service, strength and sisterhood with these amazing women doing amazing things.

Art Committee: If you are planning on submitting your artwork for the GFWC Art Contest 2019, please contact Celeste Corrigan at [email protected] so we can prepare for the January DWC Art Contest. Winners from our club will advance to the Northern District Contest. There will be an Art Contest handbook available at:

https://www.gfwcvirginia.org/forms/GFWC_Virginia_Arts_Booklet_2018-2020.pdf

Culinary Arts: We moved January First Responders Baked Goods delivery to Feb. due to out of town traveling conflicts. We are looking for a Delivery person; time commitment is only 1 morning every 3 months!

2019 promises to be another busy year for our Education Committee. We finished out 2018 with amazing results. Thanks to the tremendous generosity of our club ladies, we donated $2103.59 worth of items to Pace West for their Holiday Bonanza. The students were beyond thrilled to be able to use their earned points to purchase Christmas presents for members of their family. Thanks to our volunteers, we spent a total of 46 hours wrapping these gifts for the students. Well done ladies!! Thank you SO much for helping make the holidays a bit brighter for these children. VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES – Open to all club members. Please get in touch with the contact person listed on page 4. The Education Committee invites you to join us; meetings are the first Monday of the month at 7 PM at the Piedmont Community Center Board Room. The next meeting is on February 4th.

Happy New Year, ladies of DWC ! The Home Life Committee finished 2018 with a flurry of activities: • We are knitting scarves for the homeless.Eight completed scarves were delivered to the “Feeding Friends”

ministry at Gainesville UMC, along with the donations of clothing, gloves and socks from DWC members. • At our last meeting, members assembled 2 festive and practical holiday baskets for homebound senior

citizens which were delivered to “Volunteer Prince William” for distribution in our community. • A delightful “Holiday Bunco” was held at Gainesville Health and Rehab on December 11th. Kathy and her

committee brought smiles to the faces of the residents with holiday-themed gifts. • Four of our committee members (and one spouse!) braved the rainy conditions and participated in

“Wreaths Across America” at Quantico National Cemetery on December 15th. We placed beautiful wreaths on about 80 graves.

• Committee members decorated the Haymarket Town Hall and the “Carried to Full Term” house for the holidays.

The Home Life Committee invites you to join us; meetings are the fourth Thursday of the month at 7 PM at the Piedmont Community Center. The next meeting is on January 24th.
