Hello Robots!

District Convention is arriving soon! I’m sure that all of the attendees — newcomers and old timers — are just as excited as I am about going to the grandest Key Club event of the year. In this edition of the newsletter, I would like to discuss the Division 38 Conclave, District Convention 2012, and recognition at the District level. I would also like to share a neat Valentine’s Day service event that Highland Key Club participated in so that you all may try something similar to this when the time is right. I hope that you all can take advantage of this information to its full potential, and thanks for taking the time to read my newsletters throughout the year! :) Programmed for Service, Victor Ly Divisional Technology Editor

On February 4th, the Division 38 Conclave was held at the Happy Golfer in Victorville. After all

the candidates gave their speeches and were caucused, the winners were announced. The Division

38 East and 38 West LTG's of the 2012-2013 term will be Hanna Youn and Rashika Choudhary,

respectively!

All of you officers should get yourselves acquainted with Rashika, because you all will be working

with her a lot throughout the year in staying connected with the rest of the division and being

informed of all the events (DCM's, Fall Rally, DCON, training conferences, etc.).

Also, I would like to congratulate the other candidates that ran, Cecilia Nguyen and Johnathan

Heflin for doing so well. It was very admirable of them to put themselves out there to run for the

office of LTG.

Here you can see the current LTG, Peter Chor, with his elect, Rashika Choudhary (left) and a group photo

(right) of the elects, the current LTG’s, and the past LTG’s of the Division 38.

The 66th annual Cali-Nev-Ha District

Convention is coming up in less than

2 months, and the on-time registration

fees are due on March 2nd, while

the late registration deadline is March

23rd. Now is the time for clubs and

members to gather the necessary funds

so that they may attend DCON.

This year’s DCON will be held at the

Santa Clara Convention Center on

April 13-15, 2012. The theme is

“BEElieve — the Magic of Service.” At

DCON, thousands of Key Clubbers will

gather to celebrate a magical year of

service, elect the new District board for

the 2012-2013 term, retire the old board,

and install the new Lieutenant

Governors and District Executive

officers into their terms.

During Convention, Key Clubbers are

expected to attend all the workshops,

caucus sessions, and General Sessions. The exceptions to this case are delegates, Sergeant-at-

Arms (SAA), candidates, and the campaign staff of candidates. Delegates must miss a few

workshops on the second day of DCON because they have to attend the House of Delegates,

SAA’s must miss several workshops in order to monitor the halls, and the candidates, along

with their campaign staff, will not be attending some workshops and will be moving around

the convention center during the caucus sessions.

Division 38 West Key Clubbers are seen cheering

during the First General Session and in a workshop

in these two pictures taken during the first day of

DCON.

With the end of the year soon

approaching, the members, officers,

clubs, and even the advisors of CNH

need to be recognized and awarded for

their accomplishments!

There are 4 categories for

the awards judged at the

District level: Officers,

Individuals, Advisors, and

Clubs/Divisions.

Club Presidents, Vice Presi-

dents, Secretaries, and Treasurers can

apply for the Officer awards.

Key Clubbers that aren't in an office may

apply for the Individual Awards, which

consist of the Member of the Year and

Sandy Nininger awards.

Faculty and Kiwanis advisors can be

nominated for Advisor of the Year, Jack

Luther Hall of Fame, or the Marvin J.

Christiansen award.

Clubs contests can be entered by any Key

Clubs, and the awards consist of Club of

the Year, Most Improved Club, Club

Attire, Club Newsletter, Talent, and

District Project. A club's website is

automatically entered into the judging if

the club's Technology Editor submitted

the website to District Tech

Editor Elijah Kang earlier in

the year.

Applicants that meet the

basic criteria of each contest

will receive an Outstanding

award at DCON, and those

that go above and beyond

the expectations of the contest shall

receive the Distinguished awards.

The deadline for all applications is

March 2, 2012. Remember to apply no

matter what! The only time that you will

never have a chance at receiving an award

is when you put yourself out of the race

and do not apply!

For further information about the

contests and what to do to apply for

them, please visit

On Monday, February 13th, a group of us from Highland High School went to

the Rancho Village Retirement Center to celebrate Valentine’s Day with the

elderly. Our advisor, Mrs. Wright, and a few other members performed love

songs while the rest of us passed out our handmade valentines that we made

at the previous general meeting. We also brought homemade baked goods to

share with the residents there. We talked with the seniors, played with their

pets, listened to a WWII story, and even got a few of them to dance. It was

great to be able to share our talents with the amazing residents and to hear all

their incredible stories. I was proud to see how all the Key Clubbers interacted

with the seniors and truly showed how much they care. We will definitely be

going back soon!

Peace Sadorra

HHS President

A week prior to Valentine’s Day, the Highland Key Clubbers made over 100 Valentine’s

hearts. On February 13th, they went to the Rancho Village Retirement Center and gave

the hearts to the elderly.
