anchors are proven products, common tobuilding sites all over Australia.

More recently Ramset™ have introducedChemSet™ to the market, chemical anchoring

systems that do not impart stress on thesurrounding substrate, ideal in close to edge

or for close anchor spacing situations.Not only does Ramset™ offer quality, reliable

products, but also published performanceinformation as a guide to correct anchor

selection and installation.

Please note that the performance of anchors intoconcrete and other masonry materials is significantlyaffected by the specific installation conditions it issubjected to.

Over many years Ramset™ has, and continues to,carry out research into the performance of anchorsinto concrete and develop new improved anchors.

The concrete (or other substrate) strength, thedistance away from the edge of the concrete or otheranchors, the depth embedded into the substrate, theexact hole size and how round it is, the tighteningtorque used and the direction of the load, will allaffect the performance to a greater or lesser degree.

The performance figures presented for anchors inthis section are calculated using working load limitprinciples for a specific concrete strength of 32 MPa(unless otherwise stated) and assuming either astraight tension load or a straight shear load awayfrom the concrete edge, is applied. For combined

load situations please consult a qualified engineer orthe Ramset™ Technical Advisory Service for advice.

It is also important to note that to achieve these loads:(i) that the anchors must be installed a minimum

of 4 x the hole depth for mechanical anchorsand 1 x the hole depth for chemical anchors,away from the nearest concrete edge.

(ii) that the anchors must be spaced a minimum of4 x the hole depth for mechanical anchors and1.5 x hole depth for chemical anchors, apartfrom each other.

(iii) the thickness of the concrete structure beingfixed to, is a minimum of 2 x the hole depth.

Conditions outside these situations may affect theperformance of the anchors significantly.

It is possible in many cases to increase theperformance of a particular size anchor by increasingits depth into the concrete.

The graphs provided for each anchor are intended to give an indication of the improvement possible.For exact prediction of performance in greaterembedment refer to the Ramset™ “SpecifiersAnchoring Resource Book” or software.

Ramset™ anchors can be used for a wide range ofapplications and substrate materials outside theparameters we have assumed for this presentation.We recommend an appropriately qualified engineeror the Ramset™ Technical Advisory Service beconsulted to ensure the appropriate anchor isselected for specific applications outside the aboveparameters, as Ramset™ provides a complete suiteof tools to enable professional engineers to predictanchor performance under a wide range ofapplication conditions.

These tools include information, both designsoftware and design manuals, to enable engineers tocarry out design work using limit state principles inaccordance with Australian Design Standards.

3. Securing the Fixture

1. Typical Hole Preparation

Tighten with a spanner. For optimum anchorperformance use a torquewrench.

Wind the anchor down untilthe washer is firmly held tothe fixture and stop. Ensurewasher is a tight snug fit.

Drill hole using correctlysized rotary hammer carbidebit to the specified depth insolid substrate.

Clean hole with correctlysized hole cleaning brushwith stiff nylon or wirebristles. Using a combinationpush/pull and twisting(rotation) motion, ensure thesides of the hole arescrubbed at least 3 times forfull depth of hole.

Remove debris, dust etc.from the hole using a holecleaning blower with atleast 4 swift pumps.Alternatively, a strong blastof compressed air may be used.

a) Insert correct sizedChemSet™ capsule or inject ChemSet™ mortar,without creating air pockets,into hole.

b) Drive stud to bottom ofhole. Do not move the studwhile ChemSet™ is curing. See Technical Data forsetting times.

Insert anchor and push torequired depth. Using thespecial setting tool, drive theexpander plug down untilshoulder of the setting punchmeets top of the anchor.

Position fixture then insertthe bolt and tighten withspanner.

Attach fixture and tightennut in accordance withrecommended tighteningtorque.
