A variety of award- winning quilts will be shown and discussed - what worked well and what could have been better! Linda is a resident of McKinney, Texas and began quilting fourteen years ago after retiring from neonatal nursing. She has won numerous quilting awards including: AQS Paducah and Phoenix, Houston IQA, Pacific International Quilt Festival, Shipshewana Quilt Festival, Quilt Odyssey, Road to California, and many others. Linda enjoys sharing her knowledge and experiences she has gained from her quilting journey and has recently taped a DVD for Annie’s Catalog that was released in January 2019. continued on page 5

HowtoDateFeedSacksDatingfeedsacksforthelabelsfortheupcomingexhibithasbeenachallenge.Cottonsacksweremadefromthemid19thcenturythroughthe1960s.Thosethat are white are almost impossible to date without labels or otheridentifying factors, but once the prints came in at the end of the 1930s itbecomeseasier.ThePercyKentBagManufacturersbeganmakingbagswithprintsonthemin1937andwhenotherbagmanufacturerssawthepopularityofthesebagswithconsumerstheydidsoaswell.Ingeneral,acuratorwilldatethefabricbasedonthecolorsusedinthedesign.Colorscomeandgoinfashion-rememberthosewonderfulharvestgoldandavocadoappliancesfromthe1960sand1970s?One set of bags in the Museum’s collection from the Jim Dandy branddistributedby theWesternGrainCompanyoutofBirmingham,Alabama isunique.Thebagsaremadeupoftwoorthreedifferentprints.Itispossiblethat theyhavesurvived intactbecause therewasn’tenough fabric tomakeanythingfromthemasyoucanseeintheimagebelow.
