There is never a dull moment in the summertime at Child Center~Marygrove. Here is just a little of what the residents experienced during the last few months… Evergreen began a Summer Workout Blast. The girls walked two miles twice a week and learned yoga and Taebo. They also had an etiquette class. The girls are looking forward to a trip to the Ozarks in September. The boys of Willowood went to Six Flags, the Zoo, the arcade, and reportedly saw every new release at the movies! Their big trip was to Springfield, IL, where the boys learned about Abraham Lincoln. The young women of Rosewood managed to pack in peach picking, picnics, trips to area water parks, and lots of movies. They also went to Grant’s Farm, Meramec Caverns and Six Flags. Their big trip was to Wisconsin Dells. The residents of Aspen had a relaxing summer. They went to the Muny, Raging Rivers, par- ticipated in activities at the Civic Center, went skating and spent a considerable amount of time visiting area malls! In August they went camping at Babler State Park. The young men of Cypress headed to the new ballpark for a Cardinal’s game, played demolition ball, went to a professional women’s football game and to the movies. They also went bowling and skating throughout the summer. On their trip to Memphis, they saw a minor league baseball game and then toured Graceland. Cedar residents went to the driving range, batting cages, Fast Lane Hot Rod Shop, Lambert’s Café, bowling, skating, to Grant’s Farm, and the Art Museum. They also traveled to Chicago, visiting the Shedd Aquarium, The Museum of Science and Industry, The Field Museum, Navy Pier, Sears Tower and the ESPN Zone. Jamie R. from Evergreen Cottage threw a perfect strike at “Go To Bat For Kids” night at Busch Stadium, an annual event sponsored by Catholic Charities and held every June. Selected to throw out the first pitch, Jamie threw a great “but not too fast ball” to Cardinals pitcher Jeff Suppan, with Fredbird there to cheer her on. Her first visit to the new Busch Stadium, Jamie was accompanied by her cottage friends and 80 other Child Center-Marygrove residents and supervisors. Jamie was thrilled to see the new ball- park, hear “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” sung by all the fans, and after her appearance on the field, couldn’t wait to join her friends and get popcorn and cotton candy. Fifteen-year old Lisa A., of Rosewood Cottage, is our June Resident of the Month. Last year, as a student at Hazelwood Central, Lisa performed well and improved her behavior and her grades. Lisa really enjoys music and plays the piano, clarinet and guitar. In her spare time she likes hanging out with friends. She plans to attend college and would like to pursue a career in psychology or perhaps join the U.S. Coast Guard. Lisa has a great sense of humor, and according to her supervisor, uses it often. She is also very creative artistically and comes up with some unique ideas in her drawings. Our July Resident of the Month is fifteen-year old Emma G. of Aspen Cottage. Emma attends Northview School, where she makes mostly A’s and B’s. Emma loves the outdoors and playing sports. She can often be seen roller blading or riding her bike around the campus, but she enjoys soccer the most. Emma is a certified lifeguard and is very proud of this accomplishment. She plans to go to college and would like to become either a veterinary assistant, or work with children as a teacher or coach.
