Research on Animals

The Cheetah can go up to 70 – 75 mph. With it’s sleek body, it is one of the fastest animals in the world.

We did some research on fast animals and vehicles to help us with our car design.

The Peregrine Falcon can reach a speed of 202 mph. They do this by folding their wings at a great height and start a dive called a Stoop.

Sailfish can get to a speed of 68 mph. The Sailfish are known for incredible jumps as well.

Research on Vehicles We did some research on fast animals and vehicles to help us with our car design.

The Japanese Bullet Train can go at a speed of 186 mph. The Bullet Train is so fast because it is stream lined so the air slides off it’s nose.

The Concorde has a speed of 1350 mph. That is faster than the speed of sound. The name “Concorde” is from the French word that means “agreement”, “harmony” or “union”.

A rocket can go at a speed of 17,000 mph which propels it into space.

Research on Fast CarsWe did some research on fast cars to help us with our car design.

The Bloodhound SSC has the speed of 1,000 mph and it holds the Land Speed Record.

The Bugatti Veyron Super Sport can go at a speed of 268 mph. It is the fastest production car in the world so far!

The Lamborghini Aventador can reach a top speed of 217 mph.

The Noble M600 can get from 0 – 60 mph in 3.0 seconds and has a top speed of 225 mph. It has a twin turbo Yamaha V8.

The McClaren F1 can reach a top speed of 243 mph. It’s engine is a 618hp BMW V12.

The Final Design

The reason we chose this design is because that it has a narrow body and a

pointed front which makes it aero-dynamic.

Our LogoWe chose this logo because the name is short and snappy and its bright colours make it stand out. John thought up five names and narrowed them down to one, POW.If we

hadn’t chose

POW, this would

probably be our logo.

The Painting of the Car

Mr McKernan took Sophie out to paint the car.

First, she spray- painted the car

with White Surface Primer and she let that

dry.

The next day, she spray- painted

two coats of silver Metallic All

Surface Paint.

What we learnedIn the F1 Project, our class has learned about:

•science,

•technology,

•engineering,

•maths.

•business and

•sponsorship.

As a team, we have learned teamwork, modelling, spray- painting, presenting

information and computer work.

The JourneyThis is the journey that formed Team POW.

17/1/12

Mr.Mckernan showed us a

project on F1 cars called the

“Formula 1 Technology Challenge”.

Mr.Mckernan told us what to do in the project and about racing the

car.

18/1/12

In our class, we made

mind maps on FIP (First Important Priorities).

We also got a full page

for our project on

the website.

23/1/12

The whole class watched 2 short videos

explaining aerodynamics for our car .

The 4 principles are

lift, drag, thrust and

weight.

The JourneyThis is the journey that formed Team POW.

25/1/12

We had a class drag race with

our remote control

cars. We measured

out the track in metres using a trundle wheel.

26/1/12

We had a circuit race

with our remote control

cars. After the race

we learned how to make a

photo story

31/1/12

We researched the results

for F1 drivers last year and drew a

spreadsheet table in

Excel.

7/2/12

We made play

dough as part of

our instruction writing. We used the play dough to make our

F1 car models.

The JourneyThis is the journey that formed Team POW.

8/2/12

The Team’s

Designer made a

plasticine model of the car to get it sent to be cut.

14/2/12

We discussed team

sponsorship. We then talked

about how much

everything will cost and what we can offer our sponsors.

15/2/12

We got a special visit

from a Ferrari 430 owner and his car! We asked many questions about the

car as well.
