Principal’s Post

Dear Parents and Carers, What a wonderful first term it has been at LEPS. I can honestly say that staff, students and the community have been so welcoming to me as the new Principal. I am absolutely loving my role and looking forward to leading LEPS into the future. This term staff have been working together, identifying where our school has been in the past and where we currently are with our teaching and learning, Positive Behaviour for Learning, community engagement and students’ sense of belonging. This information will support us in moving forward together as a school. After consultation with the staff, we are making a slight change to the lunch and recess times to support students appropriately playing at these times as well as have more consistent staff supervision. From Term 2 lunch will finish 10 minutes earlier (11:30-12) and recess will begin 10 minutes earlier (1:30-2). Have a wonderful safe and happy school break, looking forward to seeing you all back in Term 2. Happy Easter. Mrs Nic Williams Principal

Attendance

Stewart House Donation Drive Thank you to those families that have already returned their envelopes. Entry into the draw, to win a family holiday valued at $4000.00 to the destination of your choice, is only $2.00. Please fill in your details together with your donation and return to the office by Friday, 17 May 2019. This will ensure that all entries reach Stewart House by 31 May 2019.

This week we will be celebrating students that have attended school every day for Term 1. That means they have 100% attendance! Congratulations to those students. It is understandable that at times your child will become unwell and they need rest and recovery at home. The Department of Education has an Attendance Policy where we as a school are required to record explanations for absences. We would like to remind families that if your child has missed a day of school to please send in a note, phone the school or use the Skoolbag App ‘Absentee Form’ within 7 days of the absence so we can enter this into our roll system.

Opportunity Class Placement 2020 - Year 5 Opportunity classes cater for academically gifted and talented students who may otherwise be without sufficient classmates at their own academic and social level. These schools help gifted and talented students to learn by grouping them with other gifted and talented students, teaching them in specialised ways and providing educational materials at the appropriate level.

Applications for opportunity class placement are considered mainly on the combined results of the Opportunity Class Placement Test and school assessments. The Opportunity Class Placement Test will be held on Wednesday 31 July 2019.

The closest Opportunity Class is in Wagga Wagga. If you would like to have your child considered for Year 5 opportunity class entry in 2020, you need to apply soon. You will need to apply on the internet using a valid email address (not the student’s email address).

Detailed instructions on how to apply online will be available from Tuesday 30 April 2019 at https://education.nsw.gov.au/public-schools/selective-high-schools-and-opportunity-classes/year-5

The application website opens on Tuesday 30 April 2019 and closes on Friday 17 May 2019. You must apply by the due date.

I will be speaking about this to all Year 4 students this week. If you would like further information, please contact me.

Assistant Principal

This year ANZAC Day falls in the second week of the school holidays, Thursday, 25 th April 2019. The Albury RSL has organised the ANZAC Day March to occur on this date and ANY students from K-6 who are available and who would like to participate in the march, are welcome to attend. In particular, we encourage our Captains, Vice Captains and SRC representatives to attend where possible. We understand that families have commitments over the school holidays and may be unavailable. For students intending to march, winter school uniform is requested to be worn, including winter long pants or skirt for the girls; long grey pants, school grey shirt for boys with the school windcheater and black shoes for all students. It is important that students are there to form-up by 8.45am in Macauley Street on the north side of Dean Street. Staff from LEPS will be in attendance from 8:30am and schools are placed in alphabetical order with all primary schools following along behind the High Schools. The march will conclude in Townsend Street with parents able to collect their children outside of the Fernwood Gym. A further reminder about the march will be provided to students next week before the end of the school term. Our school ANZAC Day Service will be held in the school hall at 10:30am on Friday, 12 April 2019, which is the last week of Term 1. Stage 2 (Years 3 and 4) will organise this assembly and we look forward to having parents and visitors come and join with us for this important commemoration.
