Who am I? I am Dave, a creative designer that can and has worked in most fields of design such as; Print design, Web Design, App design, UX design and Photography.

I am a disciplined and imaginative design professional, with a career spanning over 7 years experience in the creative industry.

Creative influences are drawn and felicitously utilised from a variety of fields, an acquired knowledge of structure, balance, the printing industry and web. Which when all combined together, create highly effective aesthetic results.

Technically equipped, and conscientious with the ability to communicate clear graphic solutions to deadline, whether adhering to set brand guidelines or to create new corporate identities.

In compliment a friendly sociable nature, diplomatic and assertive style have allowed an easy interaction with both fellow colleagues, clients and previous employers. Equally happy to work independently or as part of a team and to manage workflow and staff where necessary to achieve guided accomplished results.

I am a graphic and web designer, specialising in the fields of corporate identity design, web & UX design, print design and branding. The majority of my time is spent designing and implementing marketing promotions for businesses such as; logos, websites, letterhead, business cards, packaging and more.

I have a keen interest in everything to do with branding, graphic design and application design, you would probably call it an obsession.

My interests include; climbing, listening to and playing music, good food, good films, good company, bad television, live music and colours that make your eyes bleed.

How

Working across many disciplines of design, primarily web, graphic and UI design. I have developed a variety of skills. All of these skills focus around one key aspect “Design.” Design is my passion, I see design everywhere, taking influence from the strangest of places.

I create and adhere to strict grid systems, beautiful colour schemes and keeping this all balanced with a natural eye for symmetry and maybe at times, a bit of asymmetry.

I do this using a combination of photoshop, illustrator and indesign. However, it always depends on the task at hand to which software I will use. No matter what the task, or software I always start each process the same with a pencil, and a sketch pad. This allows me to gather my thoughts together.

HARRIGANMovie Premier Ticket Design2013NewcastleHarrigan is a crime drama film set in the 70’s. made and produced in the north of the united kingdom, I was asked to create the premier ticket design.

As HARRIGAN was set in the 70’s, I used the cinema’s themselves as an influence. Taking elements of design from the old cinema stubs. This gave a great effect when combined with modern printing techniques, also combining custom GFsmith papers to give the design that rustic feel.

SliplessBrand Identity 2015AmsterdamSlipless, an anti-slip flooring company, focusing on clients safety were a new company with many competitors in the same field. My task was to make a friendly personal brand. The brand portrays a feeling of boldness and safety. This is rare for this industry, making it the perfect element to focus my designs on.Taking influence from how the company works, utilising brush strokes both when applying the anti-slip formula and in the brand design itself.

By using influences from caution and warning tapes, I created a black and yellow theme. This was to portray the hazards of a slippy surface, giving a familiar feel to their customers.

BILLY OCEANAlbum Cover Design2013ManchesterI wanted to create some concept album art. By taking a song I enjoy, I decided to create something that matched the song. Using the lyrics as influence I came up with the idea of making a crayon art piece.

Looking at crayon art pieces and experimenting with how quickly crayons melt. I used a glue gun and a hair dryer to make this piece of art. Using photoshop to enhance the image, then adding a type lock up gave a beautiful feel for an album cover.

DEFINITIVE SOUNDBrand Identity 2014NewcastleDefinitive Sound are sound engineers from the North East of England. I was asked to create a brand that shows their personality and their method towards sound and production.

As this company uses audio techniques that bounces the sound from wall to wall, I wanted to replicate that in a design for the company’s brand. To do this I used a polygon design to show how the sound travels.

ALLIUMBrand Identity 2015AmsterdamAllium is a new breed of restaurant, a restaurant that has one core. Garlic. This Italian style restaurant came to me to brand their company. We had to focus on two elements Italian and garlic.

By researching into colour recognition patterns and basic colour psychology I found that using the colour purple represents both luxury and garlic. By combining these elements with dark wood patterns, it gave the high end luxury feeling.

Brand Identity 2013SunderlandMizu, a pop up concept restaurant in Sunderland. With a target audience of up market middle class clients, this clean and contemporary brand needed a new name and style that matches their attitude about the food and drink itself.

As the company specialise in custom Japanese style cocktails, my aim was to focus on this, naming the company Mizu Japanese word for “Water/Liquid.” Emphasising this point by using a calming blue tone, mixed with a custom made typeface makes the perfect combination to show a high end brand.
