The school year is almost over, and it has been a tough year but worth the work. Being teased by the coolest girl in school is never easy but you finished the year and only cried four times. As we grow up we forget how tough it can be -- to be a teacher that is. Barmuda is featuring some opportunities to help teachers celebrate the end of the school year.

Soho Sushi Bar and Deli, along with The Stuffed Olive, is celebrating with Good-bye UNI Week. From May 3rd to May 6th, UNI students, faculty and staff receive a 20% discount off all regular priced items. The offer includes a guest, but a valid UNI I.D. must be shown by the person involved with the University.

The Grinnell and Cedar Falls Bourbon Street and Voodoo Lounge locations, along with Roux Orleans and Bourbon Street, are offering the same discount but to all teachers. From pre-school teacher to college professor, anyone molding young minds will receive the 20% discount, all educators are welcome with a valid iden-tification.

Bourré Lounge in Waterloo, Voodoo Lounge in Cedar Falls, and Voodoo Lounge in Grinnell are throwing a teacher happy hour party starting at 3:30 p.m. on May 7. The two Cedar Valley locations are giving away spa packages and Voodoo in Grinnell is giving away a Cedar Falls getaway that includes dining, entertainment and accommodations.

Teachers, starting on May 3rd, turn in those apples for apple martinis. Visit www.barmuda.com for information.

On Saturday, May 8, Voodoo Lounge in downtown Cedar Falls will be overflowing with guitar riffs and snare drum beats as The Black Mollys and WAGG descend upon the live music hangout for a two show set.

The Black Mollys are described as old-fashioned American

rock and roll blended with alternative rock elements of today. The Chicago based band has molded

their sound from constant touring over the last de-

cade. They also spent some time touring in Europe where

they recorded Ignorance is Bliss at the renowned Abbey Road Studios in 2008.

WAGG is a Cedar Valley favorite drawing their influence from Journey, Lover Boy, Foreigner, Billy Joel and Eric

Clapton.

Doors open at Voodoo Lounge at 4 p.m. Showtime is 9:30 p.m. and admission is $8. For more information, visit

JAKE McVEYEnd of Semester Hoedown

Rising Country Music star Jake McVey is performing at Shags on Thursday, May 6th. Jake’s song “Carry On’ even reached #4 on CMT’s Pure 12 Pack and Billboard named him one of the Top Ten touring acts.

“Country night has always done well at Shags,” says General Manager Jay Ybarra. “Guests love our large dance floor and sure it is a unique venue for country night, but it shows you don’t have to look country, to love and be country.”

Born in Iowa, McVey has built a fan base by touring extensively. He has opened for Martina McBride, Sugarland, Dierks Bentley, and has also played at the Iowa State Fair.

The show is scheduled for 9:30 p.m. Shags specials are $2.00 bottles and drinks from 7 p.m. to close. Doors open at 7 p.m. and admission is $5.

For more information about Shags and the upcoming show, visit www.barmuda.com/shags.
