As is normal, many things are happening and are underway in one aspect or another. Krinny and I are very busy with projects both in progress and projected for the future.

Staff:By the time you read this, Carolyn will

be in the US to care for her aging mother as she undergoes knee replacement surgery. We do not know how long she will be needed there, so there is no projected time for her return. We will greatly miss her as she is always a great help and encouragement here in Thailand.

Chit Ooo, a Karen man from Burma has joined us and is working with us to de-termine what can be done about the S’gaw Karen Bible. Many of you now know of people from Burma who are recent arrivals to the USA. A large majority of them are ethnic S’gaw Karen and many of them do not speak Burmese, having lived in the refu-gee camps in Thailand for many years. We have plodded along producing materials in this language for the past few years and are now ready to turn our attention to the Bible.

Our Thai co-worker, Pookie is planning

to come to the USA, but as of April 11th, her visa was denied. Please pray for her as she will reapply in 2 or 3 months. But she won’t be able to come over on the same flight with us even if she is approved. We were all so disappointed with this news, but again, we know that God’s timing is right.

Our husband/wife Pakistani transla-tors are moving forward with work in the Urdu language. We have now a pretty good network of proofreaders and language con-sultants in Urdu who are working with these folks to perfect the translations. Most of this is done via e-mail as they communicate with the helpers in other countries. Both husband and wife have decided to be baptized after translating some of the materials they are working on, and coming to the conclusion that they were never scripturally baptized. God’s Word is sufficient to convict and correct!

Work on revising the Urdu New Testa-ment is going well and slated for completion this year. Good progress has been made and with the network of language helpers and consultants we are confident it will be well done and well received.

Hmong:The two Hmong men who joined our

team several months ago recently became discouraged because of the time it is taking to translate the Bible curriculum. We thought it good to have their pastor from Laos visit them here and give them a couple weeks of help with the translation and some fellow-ship and council. There are many difficulties with Hmong as theological terms are not readily available in their language.

They have begun to understand this is not a quick process, but also that God is not in a hurry. It took 2 years to get the transla-tion into the Thai language from English. Now the Hmong men are translating from the Thai translation into Hmong. There are many words both in Thai and English that do

not exist in the Hmong language and these issues have to be worked out carefully. They now have a better understanding and are feeling better about the time issues.

Also concerning the 2 Hmong fami-lies; they have been living all together in one small two bedroom townhouse. There are 8 of them. Four adults and 4 children in one townhouse is too crowded, and we have known that something must be done to alleviate this situation. We have secured a second 2 bedroom townhouse that is par-tially furnished like the one they are in now. One family has three children and the other family has one child but 2 other children will be joining this family soon.

When we began to realize what we needed to do about this, there was no money even to make a deposit on another place. We left this with the Lord and within a few days saw a place for rent. On that very day, funds came in for securing the house. One of the families has moved into it now.

We will need to provide a motorcycle for one of the families as well as the increased monthly costs. Please pray with us about this. Currently the entire budget for this project is around $1,000 per month. We have already had many asking for the curriculum as soon as it is finished. It will be worth all the effort and expense once completed.

Containers:By the time you read this, another 40’

container will be on the ground here in Thai-land. This represents 40,000# of Bibles, New Testaments, Gospels, and tracts in Burmese. This makes the 5th container focused on these languages. God is faithful to provide and brethren in the printing ministries in the USA keep on printing! Please pray for each one of them. We must publish or souls will perish.

Video:As many of you know, the use of video is

a large tool in our ministry. We have recently upgraded and replaced our obsolete and incompatible equipment with a full-fledged professional camera, lenses and accessories. This is another area which required a huge step of faith for us. We trust the Lord to provide the funds needed to go forward in this area. Our Lord knows the needs for both finances and personnel to expand this initia-tive. Contact us if you wish to know more.

Visitors:

We have had a few visitors in the last month or so. As I said before, the pastor of the now dispersed Nam Khao Baptist Church that was established in the Hmong refugee camp was with us for 4 weeks helping with translation. That church was the largest Independent Baptist Church in Thailand with about 500 members. After they were all sent back to Laos and scattered all over the country, there have sprung up many small congregations and the original 500 members now number over 1000. They are not in one large church, but scattered all over Laos in small groups, most meeting in homes.

Another visitor is Andy Kiesel, from Bible Baptist Church in Oak Harbor, Wash-ington. He has been a great blessing and

is doing some printing while here. He and the Hmong men are reprinting a Hmong songbook.

Matthew and Sue Yaksh were here with us for 2 weeks on a survey trip. This is the former Susie Domangue, who has served

On the mission field, “breakdown” doesn’t necessarily mean nervous. This week the AC went out of the car: $300. The day after the car came back from the shop for AC repair the AC fan went out. Same car, same AC, different part: $150 more. The van and the car take turns being in the repair shop. There was a day when both of our vehicles and the borrowed car that Carolyn was driving were all broke down. We had to take 2 of them in to the shop and a mechanic had to make a house call on the third one because it was “dead in the water” not going anywhere. We couldn’t take them both in at the same time, because then we couldn’t get home, and sitting 2 days in the repair shop waiting room didn’t seem like too good of a plan, so we took one the first day and the other the next day, and prayed that the one we were driving held together till the next day when we traded it for the other vehicle that was “fixed.”

Thai mechanics sometimes fix things by the method similar to the first person to ever see a cow and say “I wonder what will hap-pen if I squeeze these dangly things under here and drink whatever comes out.” We never forget to pray before we start a road trip. Carolyn prayed each time she left her driveway, and that is no joke. She drove the closest thing that has ever been invented to a tin can on wheels; smaller than a golf cart and not nearly as well built. To double the value of the car all you have to do is fill the gas tank. Every time she got a special love offering from home she said, “Well the car

is going to break down today or tomorrow at the latest, cause I got money from home for the repairs.” Did I tell you that Carolyn is a prophet?

We have several computers that need repair and the main computer server will be replaced very soon. We finally got someone that knows what he is doing to work on it.

We replaced the laser printer a couple of weeks ago. It is not broken, it just ran out of toner; but it costs almost as much to buy that particular brand of toner as buying a new printer that uses a reloadable toner ink, so we opted to get the new printer. I asked Tom what we were going to do with the old printer since it is still perfectly usable. He said “I’m going to try to sell it, but I don’t know anybody stupid enough to buy it.” To which I replied, “We bought it.” That got a few laughs around the office, especially when we found out that we had purchased a printer that doesn’t print on both sides auto-matically like the old one did. Did I mention that stores in Thailand do not have a return policy. Thai stores aren’t Wal-Mart, where you can return anything, even a husband that doesn’t work, and get your money back.

We got an electric bill from the landlord of one of the houses that the Hmong families live in. He had not bothered to switch the billing over into our name, so the money was coming out of his bank account each month automatically. All of a sudden, “DUH, oh you guys owe me $400 for the utilities since last June.” Money talks... and this month, all it has said is “Good-bye.”

The upside of all this is: God is not broke, none of the staff are in the hospital this week, and the bills are all paid, thanks to the generosity of our faithful supporters. Many thanks to each and every one of you who pray for us and are discerning enough to know how to pray for us as we labor over here.
