Sunshine North Primary School 65-71 Suffolk Road, North Sunshine 3020, Phone: 9311 2400, Fax: 9311 2578 Dear Parents/Carers and Friends, Welcome Back to Term 2: Term 2 has started off extremely well for our school community, as we see ourselves adjusting to our autumn weather of cool mornings and beautiful days. I always remember from my childhood when I would visit the township of Bright in Northern Victoria, and the many parks in the city, enjoying running through all the autumn leaves that had fallen. It is a great time for you and your family to enjoy activities outside before Winter is with us. Just a reminder that children need to bring a coat, beanie or scarf to wear when they are playing outside. Goodbye Megan: Today at Sunny North we say goodbye to another member of the Education Support Team, Megan Burnside. Megan has resigned from her position at Sunny North, with her last day being today. She is leaving to take up a position in the field of beauty health, which she has been studying hard and working towards for the last 3 years. Megan has been working at Sunny North for the past 8 years and we are sad to see her leave. She has made a significant difference to all the students with additional needs that she has worked with over this time. On behalf of all the staff, we say Thank you and good luck in your new career Megan. We will miss you!NAPLAN 2021: In 2 weeks, our students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake tests in Literacy (reading, writing, grammar and spelling) and Numeracy. NAPLAN tests the type of skills that are essential for every childs learning. NAPLAN is not a measure of how intelligent you are. It is not a measure of what you are capable of. NAPLAN provides parents and schools with an understanding of how students are performing at the time of the test. It is only one aspect of our student assessment schedule. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is just a test (that cannot be studied for), and reminding them to put in as much effort as possible and to do their best. School Orchard: We need help from a parent who has the skills to prune fruit trees. We have approximately 10 fruit trees in our Stephanie Alexander Garden that need pruning. We will provide all tools and equipment needed, and we will also clean up after you have pruned. The pruning can be done any time during the week or on weekends. If you feel that you can help, please contact me on 9311-2400. School Photos: It was exciting to see the new format for our school photos come to life. Our staff are currently checking the photos, to ensure that there are no errors, so fingers crossed we hope to have them out to you in within the next 2 weeks. We will be seeking feedback from parents, in regards to the new format—do you like it, or do you prefer the traditional format? Long Service Leave During Term 2: Sadly, I wont be part of the many activities that are planned for Term 2. From Monday, May 10th I will be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of the term. Ms Nelly Santos will once again be Acting Principal with Ms Kylie Taylor being the Acting Assistant Principal during my absence. I wish you all a wonderful Term 2 and I look forward to seeing you all again in Term 3. Dear Parents/Carers and Friends, Welcome Back to Term 2: Term 2 has started off extremely well for our school community, as we see ourselves adjusting to our autumn weather of cool mornings and beautiful days.

On behalf of all the staff, we say “Thank you and good luck in your new career Megan. We will miss you!”

NAPLAN 2021: In 2 weeks, our students in Years 3 and 5 will undertake tests in Literacy (reading, writing, grammar and spelling) and Numeracy.

NAPLAN tests the type of skills that are essential for every child’s learning. NAPLAN is not a measure of how intelligent you are. It is not a measure of what you are capable of. NAPLAN provides parents and schools with an understanding of how students are performing at the time of the test. It is only one aspect of our student assessment schedule. Long Service Leave During Term 2: Sadly, I won’t be part of the many activities that are planned for Term 2. From Monday, May 10th I will be taking Long Service Leave for the remainder of the term. Cross Country is a sport of selected students that run a far distance race over dirt or grass. On Friday the 23rd of April, 2021 we participated in the District Cross Country Competition at Sasella Park, in Deer park. We shared a bus with Albion North Primary School, which was fun!

When we got to the park, and we settled down, it was time for the 8—9 year old girls and boys to start. We had 2 girls in that race that made it to the top 10. Scarlett got 4th place and Noon got 6th! After that race, it was time for the 10—11 year old race, and oh boy it was a long race! After 1 lap I was so tired I couldn't even run, but I had to speed up for Sunny North! Amaya was the only one in the 10—11 year old race. She cam in 4th place. Finally, it was time for the 12—13 year old race. No one made it to the top 10 in the 12—13 year old race, but everyone had fun. Some people met up with other people that they knew, and others made new friends.

We are very excited that Scarlett, Noon and Amaya will be representing Sunny North in the Regionals later this year—amazing job girls!

After the long day, we went back to school and had a well deserved break!

Mother’s Day Stall: Mother’s Day is only a couple of weeks away on Sunday May 9th. In keeping with the tradition, Sunshine North will celebrate the occasion with a Mother’s Day Stall to enable all children to purchase a small gift for their mothers, grandmothers or carers. The P.F.A will run the stall on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th May. There will be various gift packs available to buy, priced between $1.00 —$7.00. Each class will have the opportunity to come to the stall over the two days.

As part of the Victorian Government’s Affordable Uniform Program, every Prep student who attends a government school in 2021 and is a recipient of the Camps, Sports and Excursion Fund (CSEF) automatically qualifies for a Winter Uniform Pack Voucher. Sunshine North Primary prides itself on being a safe and happy learning environment. Every 2 weeks we focus on a particular value that contributes to this.

The value that our school will be focusing on in the next 2 weeks is PERSISTENCE. What does it mean to be persistent? Being persistent is about being determined to get something done even if it’s hard or doesn’t work the first time. You can show that you’re being persistent by developing new skills and having a positive attitude when you meet new challenges. Teachers will be on the lookout for students who are being persistent when it comes to learning new things and staying positive even when things get difficult.
