DEARBORN Thecountdown is on until thisyears Homecoming fes-tivities begin at Ford FieldPark in Dearborn.

The festival kicks offFriday with plenty of fam-ily fun.

The festival is also knownfor its entertainment,with the headline act onSaturday being the band,

WAR. There also is musicon three stages throughoutthe weekend.

This year, the city is join-ing again with the nonprofitDearborn Community Fundto organize the festival,which is a major fundraiserfor more than two dozenDearborn-based serviceclubs and cultural and char-ity groups.

DEARBORN HEIGHTS Interested Crestwood SchoolDistrict residents have until 4 p.m. Aug. 14 to file petitionsfor a seat on the Board of Education.

Two partial-term seats are available. The first seat, cur-rently held by Dianne Ward, is for a term ending Dec. 31,

2014. The second seat is for a term ending Dec. 31, 2016.The Board of Education is currently working to fill theseat, which was vacated by longtime board member RonPanetta, who resigned in early July.

Voters will cast their ballots for the candidates in thegeneral election Nov. 6.

Those thinking of seeking election to office should con-tact Dearborn Heights city Clerk Walter Prusciewicz at1-313- 791-3400 for information on what to do. All petitionsmust be turned in to the City Clerks office.

Tonight, the board will be interviewing five candidatesto fill Panettas seat from Aug. 6 through the election. Theinterviews are taking place in a meeting open to the public.It begins at 6:30 p.m. in the high school library, according toSuperintendent Laurine VanValkenburg.

All candidates interested in being elected to the boardmust file a petition.
