PARISH OFFICE HOURS ARE LIMITED UNTIL JANUARY 16TH Over the next few weeks a few things impact the availability of the Office Staff here at St. Paul Parish. December 21 at 11:00AM - December 27 at 8:30AM the office

will be closed for Christmas. December 29 - January 1 the office will be closed for New Years

and the Solemnity of Mary. January 4 - January 14 the Office Manager will be off. The office will be open but hours may be limited due to Sue and Ginny’s schedules. You may want to call before stopping by. January 15 is Martin Luther King Day and the office will be

closed. January 19 is the March for Life Rally; both Fathers, Sue and Jim

will be attending so the office will be closed.

After that we should be back on track with normal business hours.

Christmas Second Collection The Diocesan tradition is for Christmas Eve & Christmas Day Masses to have a second collection designated for Children & Family Services. This is to provide for the needs of these often forgotten and marginalized children of God.

Reading & Reflections

GOD’S PROMISE The lengthy passage from Samuel is a wonderful exposition of God’s promise to the house of David: that his throne would forever be gloriously occupied by his descendants. Hidden in the mystery of the prophecy is the promise of the Savior, the Messiah, Son of God and Son of David. The prophet Nathan, speaking in God’s name, poetically turns around David’s plan to build a house for God, and announces God’s plan to build a “house,” that is, a dynasty for David. From this house of David will come the Messiah, the Christ, not in kingly splendor as David ruled, but as a humble man, destined to rule forever and over all. When God gives a gift, it’s amazing what we are given—so different from what we ever could have imagined. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co., Inc.

TODAY’S READINGS First Reading — I will fix a place for my people. I will plant them so that they may dwell in their place without further disturbance (2 Sam-uel 7:1-5, 8b-12, 14a, 16). Psalm — For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord (Psalm 89). Second Reading — To the only wise God, through Jesus Christ, be glory forever and ever (Romans 16:25-27). Gospel — Behold, I am the handmaid of the Lord. May it be done to me according to your word (Luke 1:26-38). LOST & FOUND Over the past few weeks it has come to the attention of the office staff that some items were lost (here) that could be costly to replace. Spe-cifically, parishioners have lost a hearing aid, a cell phone and a pair of glasses. So, please take notice in your pew, if you find things that have been left behind please give them to an usher, the sacristan, or one of the office staff. We also have a lost & found area on the bulletin board ledges back in the vestibule, however for valuable items like the ones mentioned above, please put them in another person’s hands... Thank You!

THANK YOU JUST DOES NOT COVER IT... A lot of time, vision and talent went into decorating the church, it always does. So, it is important to say thank you for 2 of our environmen-talist volunteers, Bonnie McCurry and Alice Rhine. Each year before decorations go up they are here refreshing the wreaths and swags, giving to our parish from their time and talent. Nice job ladies. Also we thank those who help Alice and Bonnie to reach those high places and other set ups that they help do.

A NEW BIBLE STUDY - THE EUCHARIST Our Bible study group will offer a six week video-based study of the Eucharist, the source and summit of our faith. It will focus on the Real Pres-ence of Jesus in the Eucharist and the reality of the Eucharistic celebration as sacrifice and sacred meal. The study begins on January 30. No prior Bible study experience is necessary.

FAMILIES HELPING FAMILIES Our Advent 2017 project, Families Helping Families, was again a huge success. Through the generosity of this parish, and under the coor-dination of Brenda Concannon 26 children from 18 families were helped by 40 parishioners/families and the Rosary Altar Society. Because of everyone's generosity we were able to get every item on each child's list and also give each family a Giant Eagle gift card to help with holiday groceries. Christmas was brightened for them because of your kindness. Because anonymity is maintained by Catholic Charities, we will never know who it is that has been helped, but rest assured that your gifts are appreciated by the recipients of the Family Helping Families project.

MILITARY ASSISTANCE PROJECT We are learning more about sending supplies overseas to our troops. We have learned that the post office and the airport do not allow us to ship anything that is an aerosol, or anything that is in a glass container. Any item that you contributed that was an aerosol or in glass had to be pulled from the shipping package. It was then donated to our local food pantry. Everything that we send is appreciated we just have to watch how it is packaged. Thanks for contributing to support our troops overseas.
