First Sunday of Advent | Primer Domingo de Adviento

Dear brothers and sisters,

Today the church begins the season of Advent.

This season is a time to prepare for the celebration

of the birth of our Savior Jesus Christ. Many of

you are helping us with the decoration of our

church with the Advent wreath which reminds us

of the four Sundays of the season. Each Sunday a family will

light one of the candles. Also, the Advent tree is placed in the

entrance of the church and it has paper slips with a “wish gift”

list written on it for the needy; you are welcome to pick one and

bring back the unwrapped item for us to deliver to the needy.

On December 15 and 16 we will also be making food boxes for

the poor. And on December 19th at 7pm, there will be eight

priests available for confession here in the church. These are

just few ways through which we all are encouraged to

“prepare” ourselves for the birth of our Savior.

Advent is also a time to reflect on Mary as the mother of Jesus

and our mother. December the 8th is the Immaculate

Conception and, we will have the Holy Mass at 9am in the

church. On the 11th and the 12th of December Mary is honored

around the world as Our Lady of Guadalupe. We will have the

Holy Mass that evening at 7pm presided by Archbishop

Vlazny. The blessing of the new frame of Mary will also take

place that night. On the 12th the Holy Mass to Our Lady of

Guadalupe will be at 7pm with the play of the apparitions of

our Lady.

Indeed, Advent is all about Jesus, Mary, and the poor!

How will you prepare for the celebration of the Birth of

Jesus?

Queridos hermanos y hermanas,

Hoy la iglesia inicia el tiempo de Adviento que es la preparación para la celebración del nacimiento de Jesús

nuestro Salvador. Muchos de ustedes están ayudándonos con la

decoraciones de la iglesia. La corona de Adviento nos recuerda los cuatro domingos en espera de la Navidad; una familia

prendera una vela cada domingo. A la entrada de la iglesia tenemos el árbol de Adviento con papelitos que tienen escrito

cosas que se necesitan para los pobres. Por favor, tome un

papelito y traiga lo que estamos pidiendo para los pobres. El 15 y el 16 de Diciembre estaremos preparando cajas con

comida para los pobres. El 19 de Diciembre a las 7pm vendrán

ocho sacerdotes para que usted venga con toda su familia a confesarse. Estas son maneras como usted puede prepararse

para el nacimiento de nuestro Salvador.

Adviento es un tiempo también dedicado a María, madre de

Jesús y madre nuestra. El 8 de Diciembre se celebra la

Inmaculada Concepción y tendremos la Santa Misa a las 9pm. El 11 y el 12 de Diciembre la iglesia celebra la fiesta de Nues-

tra Señora de Guadalupe y la bendición del nuevo cuadro de la virgen. El arzobispo Vlazny presidirá la Santa Misa y la

bendición del cuadro. El 12 de Diciembre será la Santa Misa

con las apariciones. ¡De verdad que Adviento es tiempo de Jesús, María y los pobres!

First Sunday of Advent: As we begin Advent we are called to “wait” in

joyful anticipation for the grace of Christmas

to once again bless our lives. Wherever you live in our

parish, there are poor families within walking distance

of your home. When in need, they ring the rectory bell.

They are, in effect, ringing your doorbell.

Your gift in the St. Vincent de Paul poor box will

help the poor celebrate the grace of God’s love this

Christmas.

Primer Domingo de Adviento

Al iniciar el Adviento estamos llamados a estar

"¡Vigilantes! A estar alertas” mientras esperamos

alegremente por la gracia de la Navidad para bendecir

una vez más nuestras vidas.

Thank you all for your generous donations for the Christmas

food boxes. We are still in need of corn and any

monetary donation would be appreciated.

Starting this weekend we will be at the back of the church accepting your donations if you are thinking

New Sacred Art in our church sanctuary

Nuevo arte sagrado en nuestro santuario de la iglesia

To continue to make our church interior an inspiring place of worship, new sacred art will soon be added. In the sanctuary, a beautiful wood-carved image of Our Lady of Guadalupe and one of St. Joseph will be placed on either side

of the main crucifix. Para continuar haciendo del interior de nuestra iglesia un lugar de adoración

inspirador, pronto se agregará nuevo arte sagrado. En el santuario, una hermosa imagen tallada en madera de Nuestra Señora de

Guadalupe y una de San José se colocará a cada lado del crucifijo principal.

The clear glass of the tall window on the south side of the sanctuary will be

replaced with colorful stained glass, highlighting the cross at the center of the window frame. El vidrio transparente de la ventana alta en el lado sur del santuario será reemplazado por vidrieras de colores,

exaltando la cruz en el centro de la ventana.

Parishioners who wished to be sponsors, have already contributed funds for the images of

Mary and St. Joseph. All parishioners are invited to assist with the cost of the stained-glass window - perhaps contributing in honor of a

family member whose name will then be included on a plaque next to the window. Los feligreses que deseaban ser patrocinadores, ya han contribuido fondos para las imágenes de
