Coaches Corner

Good Evening and Welcome back to the Dragons Den, as this is prewritten before the weekend let’s hope that we have given Hull a good game of hockey last night, came away with a win and fingers crossed that all the players are available for tonight’s game – Basically no new injuries or suspensions etc, as tonight’s game will be as challenging as last week’s home game against Manchester.

Again I thought we played well considering the amount of players we were missing (Founds, Costelloe, Chappell), with the younger players all stepping up to the mark yet again, I can’t help but feel that the turning point in last week’s game was when Dan unfortunately got injured and we had to shuffle the lines yet again anyway onwards and upwards…

Tonight we face off against the newly formed Widnes Wild, although newly formed the core group of players have iced against us at some stage in the past or in fact played for the Dragons. On that note we welcome back one of last year’s star players Ben Simister, unfortunately Ben was unable to commit to the Dragons this season and as he lives closer to Widnes it made sense for him to sign there. Let’s not forget how much time and energy these guys all put in to their hockey as its not just about playing at the weekends but training a few times a week and late at night so its understandable how Hockey impacts on these guys.

As Widnes is closer to Deeside than Manchester & Blackburn I guess they now take over the role as our local rivals, therefore tonight’s game will be a passionate affair with players playing not just for the points but for personal pride, so I think its only fare to say that its quality hockey I want from our team and also i’m sure its what supporters want to see..

When I was a young lad many moons ago playing for the Deeside Dragons, I remember some of the chants the supporters used to shout, it would be great to hear some more noise coming from the balcony as it really does make a difference to the lads when we hear you.

So come on, shout, cheer and sing your heart out and show your support for YOUR DEESIDE DRAGONS!

#6 Steve Fellows

Match Report Vs Bristol Pitbulls

A Chris Jones hatrick and a 2+2 from new import Dan Söderberg helped the Dragons to a comfortable 9-1 victory over southern team Bristol Pitbulls.

Simon Furnival opened the scoring on the five minute mark with Gez Lewis making it 2-0 just minutes later. With the goals going in thick and fast it was 6-0 to the Dragons at the first break.

The second period was a bit more of an even affair with netminder Ed Begley’s good form denying Bristol getting on the score sheet until the half hour mark when Adrian Smith slid the puck past Begley for their only goal of the night, Dan Söderberg open his account with his first goal for the Dragons minutes later to take the initiative back to the Dragons to make it seven one to the home team,Chris Jones got his hatrick goal three minutes later to increase the Dragons lead to eight.

The third period was good end to and hockey with both goalies seeing plenty of action. Liam Williams from the Pitbulls took a tripping penalty on fifty five minutes which gave the Dragons the man advantage and that advantage was taken when import Andersson got his second goal of the night to make the final score nine one to the dragons

Final buzzer- Dragons 9 – 1 Pitbulls.
