Defining a Documentary

• I have decided to look into which documentaries are on at 'prime time' and what the subject matter is. This research will enable me to decide where my documentary will belong on the TV listings and also help me to determine which channel will be most suitable for my documentary to be aired on.

• BBC Documentaries, 6pm - 9pm 6:30pm 'Reel History of Britain - Britain on the Move' - documentary looking back at the history of Britain, in this episode the presenters look back to when cars became available, showing footage preserved by the British Film Institute. This is part of a series. Informative, historical and cultural.

• 8:00PM 'Natural World - Echo, An Unforgettable Elephant' - part of the Natural World series, a celebration of the life of the world's famous elephant, following her relatives to see how they survive. Factual, Scientific, educational.

• After researching these documentaries, I have discovered that most of the documentaries on at 'prime time' in the evening are those with the educational and informative subject matter. I believe my documentary will fit into this section but that it will probably be more suited for a more controversial channel such as Channel 4 rather than the BBC.
