Major Concern 2: To enhance the Life Planning Education for Students

Achievements & Reflection

1. Exploring students’ potential through enhancing self-understanding

A game to enhance students’ cultural sensitivity was designed and implemented as class-based career activities for S1 students by HK Unison. The simulation game was

interesting and encouraged students’ self-reflection.

The following arrangement made by our CGT enabled S3 students to make a more

responsible and informed choice for their NSS elective subjects, these included:

i The career interest inventory (Holland Test) had been done by all S3 students by

using our tailor-made mobile App installed in S3 students’ tablets;

ii A series of comprehensive S3 career lessons with well-designed student booklets

during morning class teacher period, in additional to the subject panel heads’ subject introduction information

With the help of HK UNSION, an enhancing self-understanding session had been

arranged for S4 by carrying out a different career test. Besides, our school social worker

had also arranged a career camp for interested S4 students to enrich the

self-understanding career activities in S4.

The newly launched S5 career guidance lessons together with the Career Guidance

booklet which had been designed to help students planning for their future studies or

career development, and at the same time, to develop a better self -understanding on their

own constraints in setting career goal. About 80% of these students gave 4 marks or

above out of 5 for our career guidance lessons.

Career interest inventory (Holland Test) and a complete set of career guidance booklet

had been issued to help S6 students to go through the decision making process for their

JUPAS choices. QR code were used to ensure students could access relevant information

more effectively. Career teachers were assigned to different classes and provided

personal guidance to students, known as JUPAS consultation sessions.

Special arrangement was made to keep minimum influence to normal lessons. Tourism

related career exploration activities were most welcomed.

Students’ feedbacks were collected through questionnaires or students were required to

write reflections on the activities. Majority of the participated students strongly agree /

agree that the activities were useful and inspiring for their future plan. Teachers’ sharing sessions had been done during the S5 and S6 class teachers meetings. Teachers expressed

that those activities provided up-to-date career related information for their students.

3. Developing life plan and managing changes

Class teachers and English teachers were well coordinated to take part in the preparation

of SLP, JUPAS application and EAPP application.

According to a survey for 2015 S6 graduates, about 80% of the students continued to

further their studies. Therefore, in this year, we arranged a series of study talks to S6. At

the same time, we also put focus on teaching our S6 students about the qualification

framework.

UNISON was invited to arrange interview workshop for S6 students. It focused on the

DOs and DON’Ts during an interview, preparations for an interview and Mock Interview

training sessions. Many students gained extra credit for JUPAS and EAPP application

after their interviews offered by the tertiary institutions.

Based on students’ feedback, SLP, JUPAS record and survey, most of the students were able to make their plan ahead before the release of HKDSE results. S6 students had

already explored their career path after attending a series of career lessons and seminars.

The number of S6 graduates applied for our ADHD Programme Scholarship, which is

sponsored by CTF Charity Foundation, increased drastically. It indirectly reflected that

more students chose to further their studies by pursuing the sub degree programmmes.
