Deb and I went toParade at the end ofJune and we werejoined by severalother couples fromour region. As youknow Parade was inFrench Lick, Indianathis year. The venuewas fantastic and the
resort staff did a bang-up job to ensurethat it was a success. One of thetraditions at the Victory Banquet at theend of Parade is the announcement offuture national events. This year theyannounced that Parade next year will bein Jay Peak, Vermont. We are alreadymaking plans for the trip. PCA alsoannounced that Parade in 2017 will bein Spokane, Washington and Escape2017 will be at the Squaw Valley SkiResort near Lake Tahoe, California.Watch for an article on this year’sParade in the next newsletter.

The 60thAnniversary of thePorsche Parade washeld this last monthin French Lick,Indiana. Despite therain & floodingthey had receivedprior to our arrival
it was still a great time. Many fromMVR made it down, and it was reallygreat to see you all there.
Because of the rain several of ouroutside venues like the Welcome Party,Victory Banquet & Concourse had to bemoved indoors. It was slightlydisappointing to not get to enjoy thebeautiful grounds, but they stillmanaged to pull it all together nicely.
For those of you unfamiliar to Paradeall of the events are staffed byvolunteers, the logo of Parade is"Fueled By Volunteers", and you seethat displayed everywhere. Jim & I havevolunteered in the past but this year weweren't signed up. During registration itwas announced volunteers were stillneeded, so we decided at that time tosign up for a volunteer spot. Well, thatturned out to be the best decision of theday!
On Saturday, at the end of the weekPCA puts on an amazing thank youlunch for all of the volunteers, and
during this time they give out "prizes"as their thank you for helping out duringthe week. Usually we might win a T-shirt or two but this year we hit big. Notonly did I win a T-shirt but I won one ofthe most coveted of prizes, tires!! Yup,Diane won Toyo tires! Unfortunatelythey won't fit my Cayenne so Jimactually gets them for the tack car, ohwell, it's still a great gift.
The winning didn't stop there for theSchoen's. Later that evening at theVictory banquet they called Jim's namethis time. He won a TomTom GPS golfwatch. Neither of us golf, but I had justbeen talking with Karen Hergenrederabout taking up the sport & seeing if Iwould enjoy that more than tennis. Itmight be a sign. With school right nowit may need to wait a year though!
Next year Parade will be in Vermont, Iplan on attending and hope many of youcan join me. I've never been there buthear it is beautiful, hope you all can fitit into your plans!
Looking forward to seeing you all out atGrattan this coming month and MonAmi on August 16.

On May 16th, the Annual New MemberWelcome Party was held at CentralClassic Cars and nine new membersattended this event. Sixty club membersshared stories and past events with thenew members amongst the manywonderful examples of fine marquesand models of cars at this venue.
As part of this special event we had aChili Cook-Off. Seven members andone new member joined in the lively butfriendly competition by bringing theirbest chili. Other members broughtappetizers, sides, beverages, anddesserts to share.
Jeff Vollmar was ‘unofficiallyappointed’ the MC for the evening.
The new members were introduced withthe required question of “what Porschedo you drive?” MVR logoed bottles ofwine were given to the new members asa welcome gift.
As we tasted the chili’s we made noteof our favorites. When the votes werecounted, the following members wonthe these categories:

Greetings PCA Zone4 Members,
PCA strongly encour-ages the regions togive back to theircommunities. I amproud to say that inZone 4 many regionshold high profileevents that raise a
great deal of money for worthy causes.A number of these events are car showsthat are appealing to members from anyregion and fun for the entire family. InJune, CIR hosted CruZionsville benefit-ting the Alzheimer’s Association. Thismonth is ARPCA’s PVGP (PittsburghVintage Grand Prix) in Schenley Parkwhich assists the Autism Society ofPittsburgh and the Allegheny ValleySchool. Also this month is P2O(Porsches to Ohio) in Granville, whichsupports a number of Mid-Ohio re-gion’s local charities. In October, OhioValley Region will host Rallye PorscheMariemont benefitting local charities.
In addition to all of the large car shows,there are other ways that Zone 4 regionscan make significant contributions.Many regions give back by collectingmoney and goods for local food banksand meal programs. Southeast Michiganregion supports the Jo Brighton SpecialOlympics program and is making a sub-stantial difference. And Michiana re-gion is one of the sponsors of SchoolSupply Give Away of Gary that assistsover 1300 students annually.
Along with fundraising, PCA membersalso donate their time and effort in order
to help make a difference in the com-munity. Nationally, PCA has partneredwith Tire Rack Street Survival, a pro-gram that teaches car control skills toteens to provide them with the tools tobecome safer and smarter drivers. Ihave always been a strong advocate ofthe Tire Rack Street Survival programand have been promoting it at the Presi-dents’ Meetings. I am very pleased tosee a positive response from the regionsover the past few years. The initiativehas been quite successful as this yearour Zone is scheduled to hold 5 StreetSurvival Schools, the most within PCA.
People that take the time to give ofthemselves and volunteer for these wor-thy causes are just a few more ways thatI find the PCA motto to be true. It’s NotJust the Cars, It’s the People.
