O -126.9 Gabbro

Coarse to very coarse - grained, massive. Feldspar grains commonly 10-20 mm across, rarely to 60 mm, are commonly pale gray, gray - green, occasionally pink in colour. Principal mafic is dark green - black amphibole. Colour of rock is variable, from dark to pale gray. Grain size, texture and colour vary irregularly. Boundaries of varieties are irregular and most commonly gradational, are occasionally sharp.

Commonly carries c. l - 307o variably disseminated sulphides. Sulphides are commonly fine to medium - grained, occasionally are coarse - grained. Sulphides consist of pyrrhotite (magnetic), chalcopyrite, generally lesser pyrite. In some cases, larger blebs of pyrrhotite exhibit irregular, patchy rims of chalcopyrite.

Occasional chloritic slips at 20 degrees to core axis.Rock carries very sparse, thin quartz veinlets, commonly at c. l O degrees to core axis.

Occasional sericitic - chloritic slips at 20, 30, 50 degrees to core axis.

Gabbro

Fine to medium - grained, gray - green, carries a few brick - red feldspar phenocrysts. Faint banding near upper contact at 50 degrees to core axis.

Granite

Commonly porphyritic, with pink to brick - red feldspar phenocrysts commonly c.5mm across, in medium to fine - grained gray matrix of quartz, feldspar and homblende(?).

Upper contact fairly sharp and irregular.




326.5 - 505

Sericite - chlorite - carbonate on slips near upper contact at O, 30,40,60,80 degrees to core axis. Rock generally exhibits fracturing near contact.

c. 300' - c.420' Fracture zone. From c.300 1 core becomes increasingly broken, very badly broken c.315 1 - c.342', c.3951 - c. 420', generally less badly broken thereafter. Numerous slips coated with carbonate, sericite and chlorite. Slips at 0,10, 20,40, 50,60,70 degrees to core axis. Rocks where core is "whole" exhibit variable degrees of brecciation.

Lower contact of granite is sharp, irregular.

Wacke, Pebbly Wacke

Gray, gray - green, fine - grained, commonly massive, occasionally exhibits bedding. Pebbly wacke carries sparse granules and pebbles of pink and gray granite, arkose and quartz, and rare cobbles of pink granite.

342.6 Bedding at 60 degrees to core axis. 350 Bedding at 60 - 70 degrees to core axis.
