I NTRODUCTI ON

The B I G BULK property i s located on the southeast shore o f

Kinskuch Lake between elevat ions 1117 m and 1981 m. The area o f

i n t e r e s t i s located on a south fac ing p a r t l y t reed slope, a t evelat ion

1250 m.

Access t o the property i s from the end o f a logging road on the

Kinskuch River about 18 km t o the east, o r from K i t sau l t , B.C., about

22 km t o the south. Hel icopter service i s avai lab le a t K i t s a u l t and

f l o a t plane bases are located a t Terrace and Prince Rupert, B.C..

I n J u l y and August 1982 Procan Explorat ion (B.C.) Co. Ltd. con-

ducted a diamond d r i l l programme on the property using JMT Services

The zone o f m ine ra l i za t i on i s q u i t e extensive and l o c a l l y forms

a b r i g h t r e d gossan. This a t t r a c t e d e a r l y prospectors and p i t s were

dug i n the 1930s.

prospect area and d i d much diamond d r i l l i n g i n the gossan area, f i n d i n g

minor values i n copper. I n 1970 Ker r Addison conducted a 1 im i ted I .P.

Survey over a moraine covered area and d r i l l e d two holes, one o f which

tested bedrock. The successful ho le contained minor copper values. No

gold assaying was done by these previous operators.

I n the l a t e 1950s, Kennco Explorat ion acquired the

best d r i l l e d on the property t o date.

holes between J u l y 20 and Aug. 12, 1982.

D r i l l Hole A-1

Hole A-1 was d r i l l e d a t 035" -60" t o t e s t a mineral ized

andesite quartz stock-work breccia exposed a t surface. Bedrock was

extremely f ractured and ox idat ion extended t o about 80 m.

oxidat ion was unusually high and the d r i l l hole may have been close t o

a f a u l t zone. Other holes on the same se t up d id no t have much oxida-

ti on.

The upper p a r t o f the hole was i n green andesite w i t h minor

quartz veins with some s e r i c i t e on fractures.

Drill Hole A-3

T h i s hole was d r i l l e d from the same s e t up as A-1 and A-2 a t

125" -60". The upper par t of the hole was the best mineralized section

w i t h pyrite-chalcopyrite r a t i o 1: l for the top 30 m. Grades were i n

the 0.2 - 0.3% Cu range, however recovery i n t h i s interval was poor,

58%, as was most of the hole. Sludges were collected beginning a t 18.9

m and geochemically assayed every 10 f e e t (3.04 m ) . Sludge assays were

about 30% higher i n the area of mineralization.

The rock s are green andesi t e 1 ocal ly fine grai ned m i crodi ori te . In the upper par t of the hole, fracture se r i c i t e i s locally present.

Below 85 m a l terat ion i s mainly propylitic. The sulphides are mainly

pyrite; total sulphfde i s locally up t o 5%.

Drill Hole B

Drill hole B was d r i l l e d a t 121" -70" t o a depth of 221 m. The

hole i s i n predomi nantly propyl i t i ca l l y a1 tered andesi t e and micro-

dior i te . There are local zones up t o 10 m of -intense bleached clay-

a1 tered andesi te .

than 5:l and assays are 0.1% Cu or less. There i s a small zone of

bet ter grade 171.3 m - 188.2 w i t h grades up t o 0.29% Cu.

CONCLUSIONS

The 1982 d r i l l programme located a zone o f about 0.4% Cu asso-

c ia ted w i t h quartz stock-work i n p h y l l i c a l t e red andesite. The zone was

intersected p a r t l y i n d r i l l hole A-1 and i n A-2.

mineral ized throughout. F a u l t i n g may have o f f - s e t the b e t t e r mineral-

i zed zone. D r i l l i n g t o date i s inadequate t o e n t i r e l y def ine the

mineral ized zone. There are, however, surface outcrops which l i m i t the

surface extent o f b e t t e r mineral izat ion. A maximum probable s ize o f

the mineral ized zone may be several tens o f m i l l i o n tons. The possi-

b i l i t y o f b e t t e r grade w i t h a higher temperature a l t e r a t i o n s t i l l

exists.
