USING MORE INTERESTING REPORTING VERBS There are lots of verbs that you can use to introduce reported speech apart from SAY, TELL and ASK. These verbs are more descriptive. SHE to HIM: "Don't leave me" SHE to HIM: "Please please please don't leave me" SHE to HIM: "GET OUT NOW!!!" SHE to HIM: "You should leave" SHE to HIM: "I would leave if I were you" SHE to HIM: "Come to my party tomorrow" SHE to HIM: "Don't forget to do your homework" SHE to HIM: "I will help you, I promise" SHE to HIM: "I'll kill you if you forget our anniversary again" SHE to HIM: "Let's go for a walk" - "It's a beautiful day!" - "Yes, it is" She asked him not to leave her She begged him not to leave her She ordered him to get out / She shouted at him to get out She advised him to leave She advised him to leave She invited him to go to her party She reminded him to do his homework She promised to help him She threatened to kill him if he forgot their anniversary again She suggested that they go for walk She said that it was a beautiful day, and he agreed Question tags. When you put question tags into reported speech you have to consider if the speaker is really asking a question or if he/she is confirming information he/she already has.
