Summer, 2013

Dear Residents and Friends of the Community, Good evening and welcome to the Bernards Township Department of Parks and Recreation’s 26th season of Plays in the Park!

So many of you enjoy and look forward to the plays year after year. I am excited that the Township brings this tradition free to the public for all to enjoy. Bernards Township proudly sponsors this event and substantially subsidizes the budget because we recognize the importance of keeping performing arts alive during these difficult economic times. It is truly wonderful that these productions are here, under the stars, in Pleasant Valley Park.

July is Parks and Recreation Month. Bernards Township offers many opportunities to enjoy family outings such as Plays In The Park. Please join us as we celebrate… details may be found on pages 24 and 25of this playbill. You can stay current on all our special events by visiting our website at www.bernrads.org. There you will find information on the wide variety of programs we offer.

Now sit back, relax and enjoy the show!

See you in the parks,

Jennifer Gander

Director, Parks and Recreation

2013 Plays in the Park

This program is made possible, in part, by funds from the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of

State, a partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, and administered by the Somerset County

WHO’S WHO...Cast

Sarah Parks (Concorde) is so excited to be in her first ever community theatre production, Spamalot! This musical is particularly special to her as she is a big Monty Python fan, and it was the first show she ever saw on Broadway. Sarah has previously performed in Once Upon a Mattress at Sampson G. Smith School, Oklahoma! and Alice in Wonderland at Princeton Day School, where she will be entering her junior year in the fall. A lover of Shakespeare as well as Monty Python, Sarah placed 2

nd in the 2012 ESU Regional Shakespeare competition last

year. In her spare time, Sarah enjoys art, being outdoors, and reading fantasy books. Special thanks to Jaye, Lois, and the wonderful cast and crew of Spamalot for this amazing experience. “May you all find your knights, your shrubberies, and your grail!” Mike Patierno (Sir Galahad) is, in fact, 27 (“I’m not old!”) and is happy (or, dare he say, "thrilled") to be reprising his role, having played Galahad in Spamalot earlier this year at Algonquin Arts Theatre. Past shows include The Music Man (Harold Hill), Willy Wonka (Willy Wonka), A Funny Thing...Forum( Pseudolus), Hairspray (Corny Collins), Guys & Dolls (Nathan Detroit), Songs For a New World, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Chess. Mike is also a Blues Brothers impersonator, a nursery school teacher, a sketch comedy writer, and a costume designer. Thanks to Jaye and this great cast. Ni!!! Gillian Petersen (Laker Girl, Dance Captain) is very excited to be part of the Spamalot cast. She has a BA from Montclair State University, where she studied both dance and the visual arts. Gillian is a Dance Teacher at Gotta Dance and also the Assistant Rehearsal Director and Manager for the Moscow Ballet’s Nutcracker at Gotta Dance. She has performed with and choreographed for Jaye Barre since high school and would like to thank Jaye for yet another exciting opportunity. She would also like to thank her family and friends for their support. “Congrats everyone on a great show!” Jessica Presuto (Laker Girl, Minstrel) is from Basking Ridge and is thrilled to be a part of Spamalot! Jessica teaches middle school English because teaching is the only job (besides acting) that allows her to be in front of an audience every day. Before Spamalot, Jessica most recently appeared in Footloose in the park in 2011. Thanks to Jaye, Lois, and the hilarious cast and crew for providing a super fun and entertaining summer! Tahaella (TJ) Rasmusson (Laker Girl) is thrilled about her initial performance with the Trilogy Players. A junior homeschooler and a seven year veteran of Annie’s Playhouse in Far Hills, she also participates in Annie’s summer program. During the school year, TJ performs in the Princeton Area Homeschool Choir and enjoys her music and voice lessons.

WHO’S WHO...Cast

Joseph Reina (Ensemble) is excited to return to the Trilogy stage, where he previously appeared as Mr. Darling in Peter Pan and the Stage Manager in Kiss Me Kate. He has appeared in numerous roles throughout the years, including the Narrator in Into the Woods, Marshall Elam in Oklahoma, Sir Guinness in Camelot, Officer Welch in Rumors, Detective Troughton in Run for your Wife and Sr. Chapuys in Man for All Seasons. Many thanks to Jaye and Lois for their leadership, inspiration, and laughs. David Rittenhouse (Sir Robin) has appeared on the Trilogy stage in Titanic (Harold Bride), Guys & Dolls (Benny Southstreet) and, last summer, in Forum (Pseudolus), which marked his 40

Special thanks to Jaye, Lois, and Marilyn for this opportunity, and the entire cast for being so passionate about Monty Python, and those so close to him for their never-ending support, especially Olivia, Sophie and Kelly. Joanna Hoty Russell (Mrs. Galahad), happily returns to the cicada-free park to join the brave and not-so-brave Knights! Past roles include last year’s Domina in Forum, Vi Moore in Footloose, Little Buttercup HMS Pinafore, and Pitti-Sing The Mikado. This winter she will be directing Amahl and the Night Visitors with Light Opera of NJ, and in the spring, will appear as the 2

nd Lady in Magic Flute.

Jeff Schaub (Mayor, Brother Maynard, Minstrel) is delighted to be back on the Pleasant Valley Park stage. His last appearance there (or anywhere, actually) was in Trilogy's The Music Man in 2010. He lives in Basking Ridge with his wife Debbie and (occasionally) with his two daughters. Enjoy the show! Katie Shuster (Ensemble) is thrilled to be performing in her second Trilogy production, Spamalot. Katie grew up in Basking Ridge and participated in various musicals and musical groups in elementary and high school. In July 2012, Katie played Gymnasia in A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, and in June 2013 Katie played Cinderella in East End School’s production of Cinderella, where she works as a 4

th grade teacher. Katie would like to

thank everyone involved in this production for all the laughs and the hard work it took to produce such a wonderful show!

Also for fun he has appeared as Pooh Bah In The Mikado with Montclair Operetta, Zuniga in Carmen with Stony Hill Players, the Captain in Pinafore and Consul in Trial by Jury with Ridgewood G&S, and numerous productions with LONJ (formerly Ridge Light Opera). He thanks the wonderful cast and crew of Spamalot, and wife Adrienne, and daughters Lindsay and Han-nah for their love and support.

Bob Vaias (Black Knight, Ensemble) was most recently seen as Henry Drummond in Trilogy's 2012 production of Inherit the Wind. Other Trilogy credits include 1994's Seussical (General Genghis Khan Schmitz) and in 1990's The Music Man (Charlie Cowell). He also appeared as Tevye in Fiddler on the Roof and as Bill Sykes in Oliver! at the Villagers Theatre. Bob dedicates this performance, as always, to his wonderful wife Karen and his equally wonderful daughter Emily.

Emily Vaias (Ensemble) has taken part in many shows at Ridge High School, Trilogy, and elsewhere in the community. Now a graduated senior, she recently assisted in directing her last show at Ridge. As an ensemble member this year in Spamalot, Emily is in her fifth (and definitely not her last) show in the park. Emily wants to thank her best friends in the cast, her dad (also in the show), Jaye, and the rest of the team for helping to make this yet another wonderful show. Break a leg everyone!
