DG Simko Gets a Jump Start on Club Visits
Fitting in 44 club visits
around everyone’s busy
lives can be a bit of a chal-
lenge—especially since the
most popular day for clubs
to meet seems to be Tues-
day and with only one club
meeting on Fridays
(Gooding) and three on
Mondays )Meridian, E. Idaho
Falls and Pocatello
Centennial.
So, with careful planning, a
full tank of gas, maps and
Roadside Geology of Idaho
book, Ben and I set off on
our very first official club
visit with the Ketchum-Sun
Valley Rotary Club, two
weeks before my official DG
year began.

It must be the time of year that clubs are plan-ning various events and activities as I have had several inquiries as to what insurance coverage Rotary International pro-vides to clubs.

Finding themselves suddenly with-
out a club President, Past Presi-dents Rick Bollar and Charlie Crea-
son stepped up and volunteered to act as a fearless duo in leading the
Rupert club.
Ben and I spent a fun evening with
the club officers at the Drift Inn, a historic landmark owned by Charlie
& Lori Creason, where we also spent the night. A tour of the area
the next morning highlighted sev-
eral club projects; bike path and Paul Park Shelter.
A highlight of the noon meeting was
the induction of two new Paul Har-
ris Fellows, Susan Aston and Dr. John Gerrard.
All Rotarians now can update their contact information
online at www.rotary.org under Member Access with the new My Account section, which was formerly called My Pro-
file.
In the My Account section, Rotarians also can change
their password, as well as their newsletter subscription and
credit card preferences.
The largest Rotary Club in the world is the Seattle Ro-
tary Club in District 5030, with more than 640 members!
Japan has the fewest women in Rotary at 4% - North
America has the greatest percentage at 24% (South Amer-
ica is a very close second with 23%)
The Council on Legislation, Rotary's "parliament,"
meets every three years to deliberate and act upon all pro-
posed enactments and resolutions submitted through vari-
ous methods. The next meeting will be in 2013 and the
District 5400 Representative will be Rusty Broughton.
Rotary clubs’ annual per capita dues to Rotary Interna-
tional will increase to US$51 in 2011-12. The 2010 Council
on Legislation also set dues at $52 for 2012-13 and $53 for
2013-14
DID YOU KNOW...
August is Membership and Extension Month
all. It seems we share so
much with our friends,
family, coworkers and
neighbors—why is it that
we keep Rotary to our-
selves?
August is Membership
and Extension month.
Plan now to share Rotary
with prospective mem-
bers. Get a pen & paper,
do it now!
Take ten minutes and sit
down in a quiet location.
Think of at least two peo-
ple you will invite to your
Rotary meeting next
month. Look at the up-
coming meeting dates
and speakers. Then, fire
off a quick email or phone
call.
I have heard the statistic
that a mere 20% of Ro-
tarians ever sponsor a
new member. That
seemed a bit hard to be-
lieve until I started asking
random Rotarians I en-
counter. Perhaps my re-
search methods are a bit
flawed but I put the fig-
ure at less than one out
of every four, so maybe
the 20% is accurate after
We share movie
reviews, favorite
restaurants,
vacation ideas,
child rearing tips
and golf/fishing/
cycling stories .
How many of us
have shared Rotary
with our friends?

Page 3 This is YOUR Newsletter!
Is there something going on in your club you
would like to promote to the District? A special event or activity coming up? An significant ac-
complishment by a member or perhaps a project you are working on? Maybe you have hit upon a
best practice you would like to share with other clubs or possibly your club is dealing with an issue
and you want input from others?
Most of the clubs have their own website, news-
letter and means of communication with its mem-bers. But, sometimes I believe we could do a bet-
ter job at cross club networking, support and re-
source sharing.
So, help me make OUR District newsletter fun, interesting and valuable by your individual and/or
club contributions of articles, photos, ideas, chal-
lenges or even jokes! Note—As the editor, I will reserve the right to modify or limit submissions due to content size or other con-straints. Deadline is the 25th of each month.
