Bullying Jesmond Public School, maintain a positive climate of respectful relationships where bullying is less likely to occur. We develop and implement programs for bullying prevention that embed anti-bullying messages and Department of Education Anti Bullying policy into curriculum area. An important feature of the anti-bullying message is developing a shared understanding of bullying behaviour that captures all forms of bullying. It is a shared responsibility of students, parents, caregivers and teachers to prevent and respond to bullying behaviour. Families can support by reinforcing the following definition of bullying: Rude: When someone says or does something unintentionally hurtful and they do it once, that’s RUDE. Mean: When someone says or does something intentionally or hurtful once, that’s MEAN. Bullying: When someone says or does something intentionally hurtful and they keep doing it, even when you tell them to stop or tell them that you are upset, that's BULLYING. Easter Hat Parade Our Easter Hat Parade and P&C raffle will be held on Thursday 11th April from 11:00am to 12:00pm. Please come along and enjoy a pre-ordered hot cross bun and drink with your child for morning tea, followed by our Easter Hat Parade. A note with hot cross bun order forms was sent home today. It would be wonderful if all parents/carers could join us in this community event. Out of Uniform Day 5th April 2019 The P&C are holding an Out of Uniform Day on Friday 5th April to support the Easter raffle. To dress out of uniform, students are asked to donate an Easter egg. All students are required to wear enclosed shoes and their school hat. Reading Eggs The school has a 12 month subscription to Reading Eggs. Reading Eggs is an online program to revise sound and letter correspondence, sight word recognition, comprehension and other reading strategies to help students become fluent and proficient readers. Please ask your class teacher for your child's log in and practise these skills at home. Leadership Motivational Our student leaders attended a motivational talk by endurance athlete and marathon swimmer Chloe McCardel yesterday. Chloe has been described as "the greatest endurance athlete on the planet" and “the greatest ultra-marathon swimmer in history”. She spoke about her journey as a professional athlete, the challenges she faced along the way and how to overcome these barriers. Some inspiring ideas our students took away from the excursion: "You can accomplish anything, never give up on your dreams" (Tamia). "Keep chasing your dreams" (Lana). "Don't let anything get in the way of what you want to achieve" (Hamish). "Anything is possible and it’s never too late to start" (Kamall). Thank you to our school leaders for representing Jesmond Public School in such a fabulous manner.

Have a wonderful week. Deborah Kelly Pink Stumps Day Thank you to the families and staff of Jesmond Public School for your kind donations on Pink Stumps Day. We were able to raise $389.35 for the McGrath Foundation. Well done Jesmond on turning our school Pink for a great cause.

Harmony Day Friday 22nd March Harmony Week at Jesmond Public School means we can all wear something orange and sensible on Friday. The Multicultural Ambassador Team will have ribbons and stickers to hand out Friday morning. No singlets or open shoes please. See the flyers attached to the newsletter for Harmony Day activities taking place in the community.

OOSH News Hello from OOSH! During Week 7, we did a variety of activities, including playing games like jumping frogs, putting on shows and performances and making cloud dough. We also tried some new foods for our afternoon snacks, including yummy healthy homemade frozen yogurt ice-blocks, and veggie burgers! OOSH is an after school care program that you can use if you need your children to be looked after. If you are studying, working, have appointments or you cannot pick your children up from school straight away, OOSH is for you! We aim to make OOSH a home away from home and we love having fun, learning and playing. We provide an afternoon snack, as well as fruit and vegetables, every afternoon for your children too. Please come and see me in the hall between 2:30-6:00pm Monday - Thursday if you are interested in OOSH. I would love to meet you and talk with you about it! You can also call OOSH on 0427 060 072 if you are interested. Shanais and the OOSH Team
