Enjoying a glass of Bordeaux means drinking in the subtlety of blends with several grape varieties, which make up the uniqueness, balance, harmony and aromatic richness of its sixty two appellations. Discovering the wine regions of Bordeaux means discovering the subtlety of the architectural blends in the most ancient châteaux with those of the new cellars and wineries which have inspired the finest modern architects. By the mid-19th century, Médoc wines were in such demand that Emperor Napoleon III requested a classification of the best, to be presented to visitors to the 1855 Exposition Universelle de Paris. Selected and ranked by wine industry brokers, according to trading price and reputation, the famous 1855 classification remains a reference today.

THURSDAY JULY 30: POMEROL AND SAINT EMILION UNESCO WORLD HERITAGE SITE

9:00am: Meet in Hotel lobby. Departure for St Emilion.

Cross the Garonne River to the Right Bank and arrive in the enchanting medieval village of Saint-Emilion, classified by UNESCO in 1999. A luminous, ochre-colored jewel built of limestone and Roman roof tiles, it’s perched on a plateau and completely surrounded by a sea of vineyards.

The steep and narrow cobblestone streets are lined with remnants of monasteries and convents dating from the 11th to 18th centuries that tell the story of the village. A Unesco World Heritage-inspired scavenger hunt will bring you face to face with the art, wine and stunning landscapes of Saint-Emilion.

Most of its finest wine estates are either clustered on the hilltop plateau, cradling the historic town itself with its winding streets and breathtaking churches, or on the hillside slopes.

The wines of the Saint Emilion are legendary. We will begin with Chateau Canon which has asserted it’s quality as a great wine, recognized, reputed and distinguished as a Premier Grand Cru Classé. We follow with Lunch and a tour of Chateau Siaurac, Lalande de Pomerol. The vineyards of Siaurac and Le Prieuré were founded in the 18th century by a Sir of Ciorac. Since 1832, the vineyards have been tended to by the same family, giving the wine a special significance and continuity. Our last tasting prior to relaxing in the town of St. Emilion will be Chateau Pavie. Château Pavie is a winery in Saint-Émilion in the Bordeaux region of France. It lies on the plateau to the southeast of St Emilion village. In 2012 it was classified in the first rank of the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine, as a Premier Grand Cru Classé.
