Inventing Tomorrow SAT Aug 3 | 11pIn preparation for the world’s largest convening of high school scientists – the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair – teenage innovators from around the globe create cutting-edge solutions to confront environmental threats while navigating the doubts and insecurities of adolescence.
Woodstock: Three Days That Defined a Generation TUE Aug 6 | 9pIn August 1969, nearly half a million people gathered at a farm in upstate New York to hear music. What happened over the next three days became far more than a concert. Told through the eyes of those who were there and timed for its 50th anniversary, this is a story of a legendary event that marked the end of one of the most turbulent decades in American history.
Animal Babies: First Year on Earth three-part series premieres WED Aug 28 | 8pPredators, rivals, changing environments, and the fight for food and status: All of these make the first 12 months the hardest for any young animal to survive. This fascinating series follows the dramatic lives of six baby animals as they grow up and experience their first year in the wild. Watch as a baby mountain gorilla navigates the labyrinth of the forest; a young elephant learns how to tell friend from foe; and a litter of Arctic fox cubs race to become self-sufficient before the winter closes in. With intimate access, expert knowledge and spectacular moments, this series offers a new way to understand the wild.

A Pinkaperfect Birthday one-hour special premieres MON Aug 5 | 9aIntroduced in February 2018, Pinkalicious & Peterrific has become one of our most popular children’s programs. Pinkalicious is a girl who imagines creative possibilities everywhere she looks. She’s an artist at heart, and like most artists, she sees the world differently from others. The series explores the arts, community and self-expression, and is aimed at kids ages 3–5.
In this new one-hour special, Pinkalicious gets her birthday wish and turns all of Pinkville pink! The special’s visual arts curriculum, including its exploration of color, helps strengthen children’s cognitive and emotional skills as they start the new school year.
Check the online schedule at KCTS9.org for dates and times of all our children’s programs.
You are extraordinary! Can we just say thank you? When a community of more than 90,000 people comes together, extraordinary things happen. We explore the universe. We learn from our history. We envision our future. Thank you for supporting KCTS 9 and for making our community stronger, smarter and more connected!

eight-part series premieres SUN Sep 15 | 8pExplore the history of a uniquely American art form: country music. From its deep and tangled roots in ballads, blues and hymns to its worldwide popularity, learn how country music evolved over the course of the 20th century. The series, directed by Ken Burns, explores crucial questions – “What is country music?” and “Where did it come from?” – while focusing on the fascinating trailblazers who created and shaped it, from the Carter Family and Bill Monroe to Hank Williams, Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, Garth Brooks and many more. Much like the music itself, this film tells unforgettable stories of hardships and joys shared by everyday people.
