Roundtable Packet
Announcing
www.powahay.com
Connecticut Yankee Council this fall revamped their website. It is still under construction and we as a District do not have the ability to post and promote upcoming activities. For the past several weeks we have been doing our best to communicate program and registration links that were changed without notification.
If you want information on joining Scouting or making a contribution, then that information is loud and clear on the new Council website. If you want information or to register for a camporee, Polar Bear, and other district activities, it may NOT be there and/or hard to find.
We’ve created www.powahay.com website as a landing page before navigating the new Council website. There you will easily find Powahay’s upcoming activities, updated registration links and other helpful information for your unit.
Please share this link with your unit leaders, members and parents.
Do you have a question? Concerns? Need help? And not sure who to send it to? Email [email protected]. We will forward your email to the best person to assist you.
Are You on Our Email List? Sign up at http://archive.ctyankee.org/districts/powahay/email
We do not share your email address and only email as necessary. Please add [email protected] to your address book when you sign up.

7:40 to 8:25 Split Session
Cub Scouts — Steve Prostor Cub Scout Roundtable Commissioner Managing Cub Scout Behavior: One of the developmental tasks of childhood is to learn appropriate
behavior. Children are not born with an innate sense of propriety, and they need guidance and direction. Grant Evans, Scoutmaster Troop 53 and Darien Public School Social Worker will lead a discussion on how to give the Scouts responsibility to help them think more deeply about positive attitudes, beliefs, values, norms, and actions.
Pinewood Derby: Racing in a Cub Scout Pinewood Derby is great fun. Participants learn craft skills, the rules of fair play, and good sportsmanship—things they will remember all their lives. You will learn how to encourage Scouts to actually build their own vehicle. Powahay has an earlier Pinewood Derby Race this year scheduled for March 30, 2019 and we want to make sure your winners are eligible to race. Join us of a review of Powahay Guidelines that we ask that you adopt for your Pack Race. Following district guide-lines will ensures a level race for all Scouts.
Summer Splash Weekend Camping Event — See flyer
Boy Scouts — William Shannon and Craig Schorr Boy Scout Roundtable Commissioner Fall Camporee Feedback: Do we like Boy Scouts and Cub Scouts camping together lower Hoyt? Do
we want to consider camping Boy Scout upper Hoyt separating from the Cub Scouts? How many troops take advantage of Webelos camping with them? Your suggestions for next year? Would your troop con-sider co-hosting a Camporee? Presented by John Hanks.
Winter Camping BSA Supplement Training: This training is intended for adult leaders to provide the adventure of winter camping to their outdoor program in a safe, yet challenging manner and to give tips on presenting this training to your youth members. It’s a great review for experienced leaders, to share their experiences and for troops to bring in new leaders to be trained. This is a BSA Supplement Course and Scouters will receive a certificate for taking the course. Presented by Evan Atkins, Assistant Scout-master Troop 9 Stamford.

The Yeti, better known as the Abominable Snowman, is a mysterious bipedal creature said to live high in the mountains of Asia. Recently it was spotted at Hoyt Scout Reservation. It sometimes leaves tracks in snow but despite dozens of expeditions the existence of the Yeti remains unproven. Make plans to organize
your expedition to head north to Hoyt for Klondike Survivor 2 Expedition Yeti. Can you capture the Yeti?
Sled Inspection
Sled is inspected for all required equipment and for proper packing; nothing should fall out when the sled is turned over. Every Scout must be wearing appropriate clothing and foot-wear. Each sled should contain the Ten Essential Item for camping.
Panning for Gold
Patrol uses a tarp co-operatively to toss a "nugget" over a horizontal rope 3 m above the ground. The nugget should be a tennis ball or a larger ball, colored yellow. It must not be a hard object in case it falls on a Scout's head. The event can be scored by counting the number of consecutive times the nug-get gets over the rope.
Whiteout Walk
A rope is strung between trees along a zigzag route. Scouts are blindfolded, spun around, and have their hands placed on a rope. They are timed as they follow the trail. The backstory is that there are whiteout weather conditions and they must fol-low a previously established trail.
A Frame Drag Race
Patrol demonstrates lashings in the construction of an A frame. Each member takes a turn tying the required knot or lashing. Then each patrol must drag one participant 30 feet on the A Frame.

Blindfolded Stretcher Carry
Four blindfolded Scouts carry a fifth Scout (not blindfolded) on a stretcher around a course following directions given by the Scout on the stretcher.
Nitroglycerine
The patrol must lift the filled transport device off the ground and maneuver it then carefully lower the transport devise
onto the finish area without spilling any liquid alone the way. iv. All patrol members must use their rope to help maneuver the transport device with one exception. The patrol has the option of electing one member to act as the leader and not hold a rope.
Tomahawk Toss
Patrol members throw tomahawks at targets. No practice. Fire Build
Every Patrol is required to bring the necessary materials to build a fire. The materials must be stored in a One Gallon Zip lock bag. The Patrols are to build, and maintain fire with no additional materials. The fire must be able to burn through rope at various heights above fire pit. Will be given three matches to start. No Fatwood or accelerants.
Semaphore
Each Patrol will have a sender and receiver of signals Each patrol will have flags to send and receive alphabetic codes.
Tarp Flip
Each Patrol must stand on a tarp. Object is to flip tarp over, without any participants touching the ground.
