Expert Talk on “Opportunities & Chal-
lenges in PSUs for Engineering Gradu-
ate” was organized by Electrical Engineering
Department of GHRIET, Nagpur on 08/09/16
for the seventh semester students of Electrical
Department. The speaker for the lecture was
Mr. Moreshwar Kudkilwar who is working with
one of the best PSUs, ONGC India, as a senior
fire officer in ONGC Mumbai. Aim of organiz-
ing this expert talk was to make students
aware about PSUs and to make them ready for
upcoming challenges after graduation. In his
lecture, he discussed about various PSUs in
India and their contribution towards our coun-
try. He told the challenges face by our country
and the role of students to build our nation. He
discussed various ways to join the PSUs and
the challenges PSUs are facing.
He shared his wide experience and motivated
students by discussing his journey form gradua-
tion to their current achievements. Session
was ended with interaction with students
about opportunities of jobs in PSUs. The
program was anchored by Ms. Bipasha
Sarkar, 5th semester EE student. The whole
event was coordinated by Prof. Ashish
Dongre Under the guidance of Prof. M. J.
Katira Head Electrical & Dean Academics.
Interaction of final year students
with pre-final students: Electrical En-
gineering department of GHRIET, Nagpur
organized an interaction of final year stu-
dents with pre final students on 12/9/16.
The idea behind this was to make pre final
year students ready for next year challeng-
es which where apart from technical skills
some soft skills are required.
Ms. Rakhi Durge, Ms. Sneha Diwathe and
Ms. Chaitali Wandhare of final year were
selected for interaction. First interaction
started with Ms. Rakhi Durge where she
gave presentation on “How to prepare for
interview, personality development”. After
completion of her presentation, charge was
transferred to Ms. Chaitali Wandhere.

She started with her briefing which was followed by presen-
tation on “Development of Communication skill”. Further
presentation was handed over to Ms. Sneha Diwathe in which
she gave presentation on “Opportunities in Electrical Engi-
neering in India”. Every Quires of student related with the
topic were cleared by every speaker.
Technical Quiz Competition: On the occasion of Engi-
neers day 15.09.2016 the Department of Electrical Engineer-
ing GHRIET, Nagpur conducted a “Technical Quiz competi-
tion” for student of seventh, fifth and third semester. Coordi-
nator of the event was Prof. Anshu Chaudhary. The whole
Competition was divided into three levels. In first two levels
there were six questions for each group based on their aca-
demic topic and the last level is based on spelling bee. At the
end of event winning teams were honored with the their re-
spective prizes.
Engineer’s Day Celebration: Engineer’s Day was cele-
brated at G. H. Raisoni Institute of Engineering and Technolo-
gy, Nagpur on 15th Sept 2016. It was organized on the birth-
day of Bharat Ratna Sir M. Visvesvaraya, an eminent Indian
engineer and statesman who was born in the remote village
of Karnataka. Program was graced with the presence of chief
guest Dr. R. L. Shrivastava, Dr. M. B. Daigavane, Principal,
GHRIET, Prof. M. J. Katira, HoD Electrical & Dean Academ-
ics . Each year, Engineer’s day has a theme and this year it is
‘Skill development for young Engineers to reform the core
sector: Vision 2025’. After the auspicious Lamp Lightening
Ceremony, Principal Dr. M. B. Daigavane addressed the facul-
ty members and then it is followed by Chief Guest
speech. Dr. R. L. Shrivastava elaborated his address
on the theme of 2016. He gave more emphasis on
the practical knowledge to imbibe and to develop
soft skill. The program was organized by Electrical
Engineering Department on the behalf of GHRIET,
Nagpur. Prof. Manoj Warjurkar, faculty of first year
anchored the program and vote of thanks was pro-
posed by Prof. Shweta Rajurkar faculty of Electrical
Dept. The whole event was coordinated by Prof.
Shweta Rajurkar under the guidance of Dr. M B
Daigavane, Principal, GHRIET and Prof. M. J. Katira,
Head Electrical & Dean Academics.
Teachers Day Celebration: Students of Elec-
trical Engineering Department celebrated teachers
day on 07/09/16 with great enthusiasm . They invit-
ed all faculties from the department and various ac-
tivities were organized for the faculties. It was a me-
morial day for students as well as faculties.

Alumni Coffee Cup Meet: GHRIET, Nagpur orga-
nized an “Alumni Coffee Cup Meet” on 17/09/16. The
Guest of honor of the program was Dr. M. B. Daigavane,
Principal GHRIET, Nagpur and Prof. M. J. Katira, HoD Elec-
trical and Dean Academics GHRIET, Nagpur. Miss Lalita
Tekade particapted as an alumni. Miss Lalita Tekade is cur-
rently appointed as an Electrical Engineer in SMS Infrastruc-
ture Private Limited. The program started with the intro-
duction of program by Prof. Antara Bhattacharya, Assistant
Professor, CSE Dept, GHRIET, Nagpur who was the coordi-
nator of the program. The program was headed by briefing
of details regarding Training and Placement by Miss Lalita
Tekade to the students of pre final year. She gave the infor-
mation about various techniques regarding training and
methods needed for placement procedure. At the end, the
students were asked to questions to Miss. Lalita Tekade and
then the program was concluded by Vote of Thanks by Prof.
M. J. Katira. The program was carried out in the supervision
and guidance of Dr. M.B. Daigavane, Principal GHRIET,
Nagpur, Prof. M. J. Katira, HoD Electrical Department,
GHRIET, Nagpur.
Meeting of Teachers Teaching Same Subjects:
Meeting of the Teachers Teaching Same/Similar Subject was
conducted by the Department of Electrical Engineering for
the subject Power Electronics (VI Semester EE) and Power
devices and Machines (IV Semester ECE) on 16 September
2016. The mentor for this subject is Prof. M. J. Katira and
the team for the subject includes Prof. Sachin Wadhankar,
Prof. Kamalkumar Kashyap, Prof. Anshu Chaudhary, Prof.
Rajashri Thakare and Prof. Ashish Dongre.
The discussion of the meeting was related to the
question paper pattern, technical points which should
be given more emphasis while teaching and also the
other best practices to be followed where discussed.
The mentor further suggested to refer the NPTEL
videos and other similar useful information that is
easily available on internet. The use of powerpoint
presentations was also given due importance. Also, it
was suggested to refer other reference books for
additional knowledge like the books like Power Elec-
tronics by P. S. Bhimbra, Industrial Electronics by
Devdatta Shingare & Power Electronics by K B
Khanchandani.
Guest Lecture on “ Autocad Electrical”
Guest Lecture on “ Autocad Electrical” was orga-
nized by Electrical Engineering Department of
GHRIET, Nagpur on 22/09/16 for the seventh and
third semester students of Electrical Department.
The speaker for the lecture was Mr. Vaibhav Shukla
from M/S Astral Informatics (P) Limited, Nagpur. He
brief that the AutoCAD Electrical is a powerful AU-
TOCAD add-on for electrical designers and engi-
neers, offering automated drafting tools for designing
wiring, circuiting, PLC modules, panels, and data and
schedules. Students can learn the symbol naming con-
ventions, usage of multiple symbol libraries, hydraulic
and PID symbols, generate PLC layout modules,
modules, insert PLC modules, and organize PLC data-
base files. Also they can learn to bring components
into the panel for layout; to generate and update cus-
tomizable reports, and use folders to organize draw-
ings etc. The rich repository of symbol libraries helps
designers to increase the productivity of electrical
design tasks. The program was anchored by Ms.
Rakhi Durge, student of 7th semester Electrical De-
partment. The whole event was coordinated by Prof.
Shweta Rajurkar under the guidance of Prof. M. J.
Katira, Head Electrical & Dean Academics.

Industrial visit to “Koradi Thermal Power Sta-
tion”: On the 22nd September 2016, the Department of
Electrical Engineering of GHRIET, Nagpur had organized an
industrial visit for second year and third year students of
Electrical department who were accompanied by two facul-
ties of the department. The visit was to the Koradi thermal
power plant, situated in outskirts of Nagpur at koradi.
Inside the industry premises students were divided to form two
groups and each group were allotted with Assistant Engineer of
MAHGENCO. Asst. Engg. Lalit Rode and Umesh Jadhav took
charge and had taken the group to different sections of the plant
and briefed up student with the introduction about the plant as
well as about the number of sections related with the power gen-
eration. After brief introduction the students were taken to differ-
ent sections such as coal handling plant, ash handling plant, turbine
& generator section and control room. In control room all the
controlling parameters were explained at the control panel with
live working. Asst. Engg. Lalit Rode and Umesh Jadhav answered
the queries of the students regarding generation, maintenance of
plant, generators, controlling & protection, life cycle of plant etc. it
was an extraordinary experience for students to see the things
which they actually study in their academic curriculum. In the end
a group photo was taken with the students.
Guest Lecture on “ Electrical Installation and
Design” Guest Lecture on “ Electrical Installation and
Design” was organized by Electrical Engineering Depart-
ment of GHRIET, Nagpur on 23/09/16 for the seventh se-
mester students of Electrical Department from 2.30 to 4.30
pm. The speaker for the lecture was Prof. Prafull Tarwatkar
of St. Vincent Palloti College of Engineering and Technology,
Electrical Department. In this session he discusses distribu-
tion and transmission in power system. He covers de-
sign and installation of transformer and Induction Mo-
tor. He focused his discussion on the practical use of
PCC, MCB, MCCB, Relays, CB, LA etc. He also dis-
cussed numerical on the various topics. Session was
ended with students interaction and clearing doubts.
The program was anchored by Ms. Rakhi Durge, stu-
dent of 7th sem and vote of thanks was proposed by
Prof. Mohini Moitra of Electrical Engg. Dept. The
whole event was coordinated by Prof. Ashish Dongre
and Prof. Shweta Rajurkar under the guidance of Prof.
M. J. Katira, Head Electrical & Dean Academics.
