Art Deco design began in France around 1920.

You can identify Art Deco buildings because they have special geometric patterns. A lot of shapes thatrepeat over and over again. These buildings also use a lot of steel and chrome.

Art Deco buildings often have "setbacks." This is when the building is large on the bottom, and getssmaller as it goes up. Think of a wedding cake - the biggest layer is on the bottom!Have you been to the Empire State Building in New York City? That is considered one of the best examplesof Art Deco Architecture in the world!
