In the Renaissance Period, Italians loved art
To them, great artists were geniuses
Nobles and townspeople filled their homes and churches with art
Artists were well-paid and given honorable place in the society
They developed new art forms based on the classical ideals of beauty, elegance, and balance
The three art forms:
ARCHITECTURE
There were great new changes in architecture as builders departed from the Gothic and returned to classical.
DONATELLO – earliest Renaissance sculptor who sculpted the first statue cast in bronze
SCULPTURE
Eager to show the beauty of the human body, they carefully studied its form and made lifelike statues that accurately showed muscles, joints and other body parts.
PAINTINGS
Painters also changed their style
Paintings were more realistic and showed real human forms
This realistic style came from the careful study of nature, classical art, and mathematics
Biblical and classical characters were common subjects
Also common were portraits, landscapes, and scenes from everyday life.
