President Esther Roadnight OAM
Last Sunday saw members enjoy a very relaxing afternoon at Charmaine and Ken's home. Thank you Charmaine and Ken for opening your home to us. The afternoon constituted our first meeting for the year.
Our first formal meeting will be next week (19 January). We look forward to catching up with everyone after the break.
If the start of the year is any indication our year will be filled with many and varied activities.
Ken and I will be attending the Bush Two Up on Sunday for the first of our four fundraising days. We will give a report at the meeting. Probably not going to be very pleasant as the weather is forecast to hit 44c.
Sarah Hinton, Business Sales Executive, Rydges Kalgoorlie will be our first Guest Speaker for the year. She is going to discuss with us a fundraising idea the Rydges Kalgoorlie has and see if we are interested in participating. A decision will be made on Monday night whether we proceed and participate - the information has been emailed to all members. If you need it sent again please let me know.
Monday night Gloria will be giving us an update on requirements for Australia Day and the Great Aussie Breakfast. I joined Gloria and Adam Weaver from Boulder for a progress meeting on Thursday. This also included a fun photo shoot ready for some publicity. Can I ask members who have not already done so to let Gloria know if you are going to be able to assist on the day? There are a number of members who are going to be away so we need as many hands as we can. Headspace have advised they will have a minimum of 4 who will be able to assist on the day.
The 14 February will see the Chamber of Commerce organised Community Expo taking place. We will be participating together with Boulder and Hannans to promote awareness of Rotary in our Community. Maybe even a new member or two may eventuate. This event takes place between 9am (set up) and 12pm so it's not a big commitment. We will be seeking a club member to coordinate our information for the Expo. If you are interested have a chat with Cherie who organised for us last year to find out what is involved. continued on Page 2...

Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie meets at the Tower Hotel on Mondays at 6.00pm for 6.30pm. Visitors welcome!
JANUARY is ROTARY AWARENESS Month
Rotary Club of Kalgoorlie
Following hot on the heels of the Expo will be the Premiere night for The Second Best Marigold Hotel on Wednesday 25 February. Rotary Foundation and 20th Century Fox have teamed up again to do a special POLIO PLUS screening to celebrate the films' release in cinemas on the following day. Diane, Orana Cinema Manager, Kalgoorlie is prepared to hold a special screening on the Wednesday night. Boulder and Hannans have joined us for this great event. So all we need to do now is sell tickets.
We will charge us $25 a head which includes ticket, small popcorn and a drink.
George and I have just been to the movies and had one small popcorn (for George) and a bottle of water and it cost us $47.
If you saw the first movie, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, you would know what a great movie that was. I've seen the shorts for The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel and it looks
equally as good.
Members have been emailed a copy of the poster that needs to be distributed far and wide so we can sell the 226 tickets and fill the theatre. The poster has the ticket outlets so encourage any interested community members to purchase from those outlets. I have an allocation of tickets for club members. I will bring them along Monday night.
I am going to stop now. Looking forward to catching up with you all on Monday night.
Enjoy the rest of your week as you Light up Rotary.

Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Quote of the Week
““Friendship…the craving for which
brought Rotary into existence is the
thing that will keep Rotary a living, vital
force in the world for all time, the very
foundation of our organization.”
