Club Bulletin - Issue 18 Monday 2 December 2013 Another week has flown by and Christmas is nearly upon us. It is a very busy time of the year. Monday night this week we spent at the Goldfields Camp School in the company of thirteen delightful Youth Exchange Students from District 9455. It was a meeting with a difference with the Exchange students hosting the meeting. Very well, I might add. Only downside was the early start to the meeting and the noise from the fridges. The early start meant that a number of Rotarians were not able to attend. Next year when the students come to Kalgoorlie the joint meeting will be held at the Tower Hotel with the students again hosting the meeting. I am writing this column early this week as I am away for the next couple of days so I don't have a tally for the Chocolate Wheel at the Lighting of the Christmas Tree. Billy will give an update at the meeting on Monday. I am pleased the rain stayed away. It was very cold in the early evening but not too bad later on. Thank you to all those members who came and gave a hand to sell the tickets. It was a great fun night. Thank you also to Rebecca Tolstoy from the Rotary Club of Perth for also coming down and helping out. Especially after our shock of the day. We were at the Recreation Hotel having lunch when a storm front passed through. Next thing a huge bang and flash of light. Yep, the Recreation Hotel was struck by lightning. Their flagpole bore the brunt of the strike and rubble was strewn across the footpath. Narrowly missing my car I might add. As the meeting Monday night sees us into December can members who have Foundation Money boxes bring them to Rotary Monday night so Billy can tally up the coin (and notes) so we can send the money off to Foundation? Monday night we will be having a Club Forum. Directors will be giving an update on progress of their portfolio plans for the remainder of the 2013-14 year. Club Forum is also an opportunity for members to ask questions and raise any concerns they may have. Generally at a Club Forum it is members only, but I think it is good for guests to see and hear how the club works. Anne will be hoping to finalise details for the GSE Team visit in March next year. The program needs to be in Perth the day after the meeting so it is important that the last details are locked in Monday night. The main being host families for the Team members. Thank you to Georgia for offering to host the two members who are from the banking fraternity. We still need host families for the four other team members. At our last meeting for the year on 16 December we will be inviting some of our sponsors to the meeting to show our appreciation for their support of Rotary, our Club and the projects we undertake. This is a Partners night so please let Peter know if you are bringing you partner or any guests. Club Bulletin - Issue 18 Monday 2 December 2013

Another week has flown by and Christmas is nearly upon us.

Narrowly missing

my car I might add.

Enjoy the rest of your week while you Engage Rotary, Change Lives.
