As I mentioned last week the end of the year is fast approaching, with only 7 meetings until we have a break over Christmas and New Year.
Can any Club members who don't have their Club Shirt yet please see Cherie so yours can be ordered. Over the next week or two Cherie is going to try and have us all kitted out in our snazzy shirts.
Our calendar is quite full for the remainder of the year. Mike Lee will be coming along on 10 November to talk with us about Police Forensics.
Sunday 16 November is the Foundation Grants Seminar from 10.30am at The Palms. All members are encouraged to attend. If you are able to come along please let me know so I can advise Geraldine for catering purposes. At this stage we have 5, possibly 6, attending.
Then on Monday 17 November is our Vocational visit to the Kalgoorlie Cemetery. Muster time is 5pm at the Crematorium. Hopefully as many as possible can organise their day to
come along at that time. If that is not possible then join us at 6.30pm at the Tower for dinner. We will be joined by Board members and staff from the Cemetery. Please advise Ross if you will be attending one or both sessions.
27 November is the City of Kalgoorlie-Boulder event for the Lighting of the Christmas Tree. We will be holding a Chocolate wheel again this year. So keep the evening free for a fun filled evening.
5 December is our Social night at the Goldfields Repertory Club. The tickets are booked for this great fun filled night.
15 December will be our last meeting for 2014. This will be a family night so bring the family along for a great evening. The Board discussed whether we would have a secret Santa this year and the decision was that no we would not exchange gifts this year. We would ask members to contribute so we can fund a teacher at St Jude’s School in Tanzania. We are hoping for enough to be able to also fund a student. The Board will contribute to the amount of $1000. This will make up part of our International support during this

Rotary year.

26 January, Australia Day, there will be no meeting, but we will be at Centennial Park cooking up a storm for the Great Aussie breakfast. After the meeting at Council next week Gloria will be advising of our requirements. It will mean all hands on deck to ensure another successful event.
All the best to those involved in any way with Relay for Life this weekend. I know a number of us are in teams or involved in organisation of the event.
Enjoy the rest of your week as you Light up Rotary.

Our guest speaker on Monday 3 November was Diane Blade, Regional Manager for Department of Housing.
Diane is a born and bred local girl who has been with the DoH for 30 years, with 15 of those years as a Regional Manager.
Diane heads up a team of 30 staff in the region and provides the delivery of service for government owned housing; being public housing, GRO housing and aboriginal housing in remote areas.
The local team manages 1100 public housing properties which are provided to low income singles and families. They also manage 834 GRO houses in the region which house government regional officers.
The management of aboriginal housing is contracted out to two different providers and there are 464 sites in the region.
DoH have three basic expectations of their tenants:
1. Pay their rent.
2. Live in harmony with their neighbours.
3. Maintain their property.
Rent arrears is the most common reason for eviction, however the DoH works with tenants to make sure they
have every opportunity to pay their rent.
DoH also works closely with other agencies to provide a number of programs and services ranging from housing for victims of domestic violence, to short term housing for people released from prison, Boulder Short Stay and others.
Diane’s vast experience and knowledge certainly shone through and members attending found her presentation very interesting, with many questions flying around both during and after the talk.
Kelsey Moore Proposed Classification: Regional & Agribusiness Banking
Sponsor: Sue Morley
Kelsey has attended two dinner meetings and on Wednesday 5 November, the Board accepted Kelsey’s nomination to put to the members. Any questions in relation to Kelsey’s nomination should be forwarded to President Esther.
Hi all,
I have recently moved back to Kalgoorlie after spending the last five years working with the Commonwealth Bank in Perth, Geraldton and Mornington in Victoria.
I completed my high school education and commenced employment with the Bank here in Kalgoorlie. I have relocated with the Commonwealth Bank in late September this year to take up a newly created role as commercial banker within their Regional and Agribusiness Banking division.
I met with Rotarian, Sue Morley recently to introduce myself, which was when Sue invited me to attend one of the Kalgoorlie Rotary group meetings. Prior to this, I knew very little about Rotary but have quickly picked up on the passion the Rotarians have for community involvement and helping others.
It’s great to be back in town and I’m really looking forward to getting involved and meeting all of the Kalgoorlie Rotarians I haven’t yet met.

GARY C.K. HUANG RI PRESIDENT 2014-15 Presidential Message - November
Four months into this year of working to Light Up Rotary, I am more excited about Rotary than ever before. I've been to 22 countries, visited dozens of cities, and met thousands of Rotarians. I've seen amazing projects and been inspired over and over again by the terrific work Rotarians do all over the world. And I've been privileged to be part of all kinds of Rotary events, from club meetings to Rotary institutes, from Rotary Days to Foundation dinners.
Every event is memorable. I feel especially honored when I am invited to share in club celebrations. To me, taking part in a Rotary club celebration as Rotary International president is like being invited to a family event as an honored guest. Indeed, Rotary is the biggest family in the world.
You could say that Rotary is built of service: Each project is another brick in the big building that is Rotary. If our service forms the bricks, then there is no question that friendship is the mortar that holds those bricks together. I see this every day, but nowhere more clearly than at some of the most special Rotary club events: their centennial celebrations.
Being president of Rotary International in its 110th year, I've been lucky to take part in a number of these. It is natural, when visiting long-serving clubs, to want to know what their secret is – because I have always noticed that the longest-serving clubs are also some of the most productive. They are large, they are active, and they do great work. Not only that, but they have a great time doing it.
Of course, that is their secret: In Rotary, strong friendships and great service go hand in hand. When we enjoy our work, we want to do it. We want to work harder, and we want to work better. We look forward to Rotary meetings. Even when our lives are busy, we make Rotary a priority – because we want to see our friends, and we want to serve.
That is why Rotary is still here, after more than 109 years. In Chinese, we say:
如果人生没有朋友,就等于没有太阳.
A life without a friend is a life without sun.
Our Rotary friendships give light to our lives, and it is Rotary friendship – as well as service – that lets us Light Up Rotary.

Four-Way Test of the things we think, say or do
Is it the TRUTH?
Is it FAIR to all concerned?
Will it build GOODWILL and BETTER
FRIENDSHIPS?
Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
Quote of the Week
“The entire world is attempting to climb
from the bottomless pit of
international rancor and strife…our
only hope is the very thin thread of
international cooperation.“
